The amazing thing about Home Free is that there is NO competition to be in the spotlight. They work to bring to bring enjoyment to the song as a whole, consequently, no matter how old or well-worn the song, it always sounds fresh and new. I think as you listen to them, you will hear words and meanings in a song that you never really heard before.

I've been a fan of Home Free since 2014 and I have been to many concerts. These guys are like brothers and in all these years, only the baritone (co-founder with his brother Adam, the beatboxer) left the group who then brought in Adam Chance (called Chance). Their concerts are an experience, The humor, music and family is an unforgettable experience.

There’s a live version of this from an outdoor concert that was stopped because of a thunderstorm, so everyone huddled together under canopy or something and the guys stand on a picnic table and sing this without microphones or anything… and it’s beautiful. You should definitely give that a listen. You are right about the guys being really good friends which is evident in practically all their videos, but if you really want to see it try watching some of their behind the scenes videos.

My record player plays 78s, 33s and 45s (I have have all 3 types). I love this version. Home Free (in another video - Flowers on the Wall) credits the influence of the Statler Brothers on their music. I've always loved the Statler Brothers and had the privilege of seeing one of their concerts long ago. Listen to their version of How Great Thou Art - it's just beautiful. Home Free does a gorgeous version of it and does the hymn justice.

These guys are insanely talented. Adam Rupp is the beat boxer (self taught and crazy talented and skilled) and he is tenor and his range falls between Austin Brown (sky high tenor) and Rob Lundquist (the lower tenor). He seldom sings, however because he's the only one who isn't formally vocally trained. You know Tim Foust the super bass and Adam Chance is really talented baritone/bass. The more you delve into their body of work, the more you will come to respect and love them. They are friends. The best part about Home Free is there is no ego. They put the music first. The lead goes to whoever's voice will serve the song the best. And yes, they are full of fun and don't take themselves too seriously. They are just good decent guys, who appreciate and respect their fans (Home Fries) who adore them.

From left to right, in this video - Adam Chance (he goes by Chance, so to avoid confusion with the group's beatboxer) - baritone/bass - he sings bass when Tim is singing lead... Austin Brown (strawberry blonde, long hair) - high tenor... Tim Foust (bass, but has a 5+ octave range), Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses) - lead tenor... and Adam Rupp (beatboxer, and is a tenor, when he sings as he did here, somewhere between Rob & Austin). This is my favorite Home Free song. The scenery is breathtaking (Austrian Alps), and their harmonies are otherworldly. Thank you for reacting to this! Wonderful reaction!

I actually knew what you were holding...my Dad owned a record and recording shop in the 60's when people came in to listen to the music before they bought the records. Please keep up the history lessons...they are fascinating! As for suggestions on what's next for Home Free. You can't go wrong with any of their music. It is all wonderfully amazing! They are great friends. Since you like history, Chris Rupp (one of the original founders of Home Free - Adam's (the beatboxer) brother has an ongoing video of how they got started and the different members they have had in the group. It's very interesting and fun to see how they brought it all together. Also these guys all have solo work that is on KZbin so check that out too!

If you really want to hear Tim's voice two suggestions you will definitely enjoy. One - their rendition of Brothers in arms - Tim is taking the lead for most of it and you can really hear his booming rich bass and... The harmonies are absolutely stunning in that song even by Home Free standards. Second - Will you still love me tomorrow/Stay - one of Tim's solo projects - all layered voice tracks are sung by Tim alone and it shows his insane range from bass to high tenor. They sing together in this formation since 2013 (except of Chance/baritone who replaced Chris Rupp-who founded the group with his brother Adam/beat boxer when they were still students). They are friends for many years and they really love what they are doing, it is obvious from their videos, behind the scenes footages, concerts... Whatever they touch - funny or emotional, together or solo is amazingly good.

I don't tend to think that we hear Tim's "booming rich bass" in Brothers In Arms - as a dying soldier, he uses a rather breathy bass voice throughout, wouldn't you say? So beautiful - their ability to give us all the feels is amazing

I am so happy you enjoyed this song. A couple of pieces of information. The guys are very hands-on in producing their videos (Chance has produced the video itself for several songs in which he takes the lead), and they contribute to the arrangement of both their covers and their originals, but Darren Rust (arranger and producer, whom they call the 6th member of Home Free) is an absolute genius and is behind 90% of HF's work. He belongs to an a cappella male group called "The Blenders" who are renowned for their mastery in blending harmonies. It is difficult to have a favorite singer in Home Free's contemporary line-up, because each of them fills a specific niche. However, they all have remarkably wide ranges and can sing each other's part when needed. Also, they usually assign the lead (when there is one) to the person whose voice fits the song best. So every time you listen to a song, that singer becomes your favorite LOL. The group is a chameleon in interpreting different genres and putting their own spin on covers, but they are always respectful of the spirit of the original. Next song suggestions: "Unchained Melody", "Country Roads take me home", and "Crazy" for classics, "Dive Bar Saints", "I can't outrun you", and "Dreamer" for originals, and "Castle on the Hill", "Love me like that", "End of the road" and "Remember this", for more modern songs. Given your interest in cultural aspects of music, I think you might enjoy Rick Beato's channel, where he analyses classic songs from the recent past. :)

These men have such a fortunate combination of voices. The tonal qualities of their voices complement each other so well. Add that to their skill set, hard work, and talent, and it's suddenly musical synergy. Nobody has that like Home Free. Your next listen should probably be End Of The Road. Rob really cut loose with that one and has never looked back.

I suggest you listen to HF's cover of Vince Gill's Go Rest High On That Mountain Church Sessions. They have an official video of the song that has a storyline with actors, however, the Church Session's version is them singing live in a church and is recorded and presented by Country Rebel radio. It is magnificent. HF has a way of penetrating your soul so you really feel the emotion of the lyrics and their incredible rich harmonies.

The bridge is a portion of a beautiful old hymn called IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. If you told me ahead of time that it could be blended in to this song and sound like it alway belonged I would have said no way. Never underestimate what these guys can accomplish. They can sing many genres and make them sound great. R&b - END OF THE ROAD by Boyz-to-Men, Soul - WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN by Percy Sledge, Rock - BROTHERS-IN-ARMS by Dire Straights, Country - TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS by John Denver. Funny/comedic HILLBILLY BONE by Blake Shelton, CHAMPAIGNE TASTE ON A BEAR BUDGET by Tim Foust of Homr Free. This is just scratching the surface of their songs. Looking forward to more of your reactions especially Home Free. Have a great night

Their producer is Darren Rust. He's considered the 6th member of Home Free and he's also a member of another a cappella group called The Blenders. If you watch Home Free's video for Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer you'll see Darren as the first guy who opens his front door for the singers and whose home they invade. If you want to hear Rob's voice well, listen to Go rest on that Mountain, End of the Road, Catch me if you can or Dreamer. He has a voice like velvet, so pure with so much soul I think the strength of Home Free is that they can all sing with each their specialty, they can figure out which voice goes with which song, they don't have a real lead singer, the harmony, the great arrangment, no egos, no rivalry, but above all the fun they have together have. There are "serious" videos / music, but also so hilarious

They are the best of friends. And such a fun bunch of guys. This is just a stunning version of this song. Hang in there. You have a lot of wonderful things ahead. Try American Pie with Don McLean. To die for.

Great rection to the Home Free guys. They are an amazing group of men. They have a lot of fun with each other. Others have given you the names of the guys and suggested some songs. All of the songs suggested are really good and any of them will be great. Happy to subscribe and like. I really enjoyed the breakdown of the records and the repeater. I have a lot of my folks records and they are still holding up. Thank you.

You also get a bit of Adam's vocal harmony from Alde Lang Syne and Helplessly Hoping. Both are amazing!

This is the best version of this song that I’ve heard. It’s so beautiful. It was filmed in the Austrian Alps when they were touring there. You were right Tim is the bass. Rob wears the glasses and is the tenor. Austin (redhead) is the high tenor. Chance (short dark beard) is the baritone/bass. Adam (beatboxer) had the ponytail and sang it is well. He doesn’t often sing but has a nice tenor voice. One change in the band, in earlier videos Chris is the baritone but left the band to go solo. He usually wears a cowboy hat or ball cap. He’s the brother of the beatboxer. Chance joined in 2016. That’s the only change except Tim cut his hair during Covid and let his gray show. Helplessly Hoping, Brothers in Arms, In the Blood, One Man Band to hear more incredible harmonies. I subscribed. Good reaction!

You beat me to it April, Tim has some wonderful solo videos that you will probably be in for a surprise. Beatboxer is Adam Rupp, tenor I think. I'm going to suggest Brothers In Arms as your next one

'Dreamer' is a very bluesy original song. I suggest not watching the video until listening first. It was a kind of tribute song, but not to who you'd think. I think Adam Rupp (the beat-boxer) has a slightly greater vocal range than Tim. Adam usually harmonizes in a tenor voice.

Great reaction man I too have been around the block a couple of times and I recognize that first repeater you showed my Mother used one it had a piece of velvet on it I think to keep it from scratching the vinyl. Now about the video Home Free filmed this in the Swiss alps and the hook in the middle was the beat boxer Adam Rupp one of the founders of Home Free over 20 years ago.

That was interesting about the records. My husband & I had a huge collection of classic rock records. We also had a vintage gramophone that played the 78 records & the needles were like small nails. Also had a reel to reel tape machine. Kids now a days have no clue what music was like. Now with technology everything is instant & accessible on a computer or internet.

Well that was fun! I haven’t seen a repeater since I was a kid. As great of an idea as they were, that scratch sound you mentioned is why I rarely used it. Admittedly we mostly played 33 1/3 records (and 8-tracks) on our stereo we did have a collection of 78s as well. We also had a collection of Edison records and an old victrola to play them on. Thanks for the memories! The guys in Home Free are all good friends. And they love having fun. If you have the time I suggest watching (on your own, no need to make a reaction video) two behind-the-scenes videos on their channel. “European Adventures” & “European Escape”. Both were filmed during their Europe tour of 2020 which ended very quickly due to Covid. The first video shows them starting the tour, exploring the places they were in, playing jokes on each other and members of their support crew, and dealing with situations on the road including a tornado that went through the Nashville area while they were out of the country. The second is them dealing with situations like a change in bus drivers, concerts cancelled, lockdowns and travel bans, and ultimately returning home due to the pandemic. It’s a very good look at life on the road, showing both highs and lows.

I’m 78, todays music isn’t the same as it was when we were young. I’m enjoying you and the way you are reviewing pre computer things. I went to school with Johnny Winter, his younger brother Edgar and jammed with them and Janis Joplin. There is one today I really like, born in 2004 and one of her early ones was when she was 11 years old. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKm5ZZt4mNx8fLc Her name is Courtney Hadwin from North East England.
