HomeFree was making a living as a group when Tim joined in 2012. Rob joined in 2008. Austin in early 2013. The show was filmed in the fall of 2013. Since Austin joined, the only personnel change was when Chris left and Chance joined in 2016. Some of the other groups were quite a bit bigger and had good vocals, plus actual choreography. The number of groups, the number of episodes and the judges changed each season. On the first night, Home Free stood out because they were so different than all the other groups. By the third show, when they did Ring of Fire, they were just so tight compared to the rest. In episode 5 of “History of Home Free”, on Chris Rupp’s channel, Tim recalls the advantages they had over the other groups. But, they still expected to be sent home early because it would make for ‘good’ television. Next song is “Life is a Highway”

Love seeing these Sing Off shows as I never saw any of them live. What stands out to me is not only how young the guys look but the humility & support they give each other. No divas in this group. And Adam Rupp's talent already was head & shoulders above a lot of the other beatboxers at that time. Hard to believe he is even better now. It is also fun listening to the judges comments. They loved these guys from the start. Home Free is redoing all these songs from the "Sing Off" for their 10 year anniversary album, so you will be able to compare them now.

Aside from their stupendous first performance, just look how tall they all are next to Lashey (spelling?) in the closing shots. Home Free was off to a great start! This was when I discovered HF and great a cappella!

Home Free has a new album coming out as a 10 year anniversary of winning the “Sing-Off”, titled “As Seen on TV”! They have updated videos out now from the songs they did on the show. They just released, “Cruise”, this past Friday! Also out in video, “Oh, Pretty Woman” and “Life is a Highway”, so far. Other reactors are doing both songs (the old & then the new) at the same time! Great new videos! Please check them out too!

They are releasing a new album called As Seen On TV to celebrate their 10 year anniversary of their win on The Sing Off it will consist of all the songs they sang on the show and a few bonus tracks plus they are doing new videos for each song. Someone may have already said this, but a lot of the groups that competed on this show were college acapella groups or somewhat large groups formed by former college acapella people. The smaller groups were more the exception than the rule. Glad you are doing these and the PTX ones. The Voiceplay ones don't really 'feel' as much like Voiceplay (they added a female lead for the show), but they were on the same season as Home Free.

They really were that good. They get better each time so there was some pressure on them to perform, I’m sure. Out of curiosity I finally went back and watched all the performances from that season. There were some great groups, Voice Play and the Philharmonics were really good. Just not as good as Home Free was by the end of the Show. I loved the little insights into their thoughts as they did each show.

Great reaction. Home Free really did blow minds at the sing off, but there were other fairly good groups against them, it was an excellent season. I hope you check out all of their sing-off songs.

Some of the groups for season 3 were professional performers who had careers before.

This is season 4. Pentatonix won season three and from what I remember season 3 had mostly college groups or amateur family/friend groups.

Yes, many of Season Four singers were professionals (with careers); they just hadn't sung in their groups before (like Ten and Element). I would only call three groups as true amateurs: Vocal Rush, AcUstiKats, and Princeton Footnotes. And Vocal Rush did not sing like high schoolers, and the two college groups contained trained vocalists. True, only Home Free had been performing together a long time (a definite advantage), but I wouldn't call the rest mere amateurs.

This is a good one for a lazy Sunday, I didn't care for the original but this has a much better sound, I do love a cappella. And also, knowing veterans day is approaching I think this channel should be the rebellious ones and honor our veterans more than one day( don't get me started on that, I'll just say I agree with Tom McDonald) I bet you could find some great patriotic songs for us, I'm rebellious enough to listen more than once haha.
