My two favorite a-cappella groups. So hilarious, but also so great. I laugh every time I see it.

In general, the a capella community is very close, supportive and help each other out a lot. If you hear the performers talk about it, there was very little "competition" going on behind the scenes on the "Sing Off". Home Free did have an advantage over most of the other bands because a lot of the other bands were put together just for "The Sing Off" and Home Free was already an established touring band and they were already experienced at putting together arrangements and performances on a time line. Tim said most of the time Home Free was going to bed at 8-9 o'clock while some of the other bands were pulling all nighters polishing their performances. Most of the "competition" and "drama" on the show was manufactured by editing footage out of context. Most of the bands were very friendly and helpful toward each other and since the competition, a lot of them have done collaborations. Home Free and Voiceplay collaborated on this during the show in case they ended up against each other but, Home Free never ended up in the bottom two. I think they ended up doing it the first time during "The Sing Off Tour" Home Free did one collaboration on the show with The Filharmonic doing "I'm alright" from Caddyshack. There are a number of Home Free's videos are arrangements by Geoff (Elvira) and Layne (The Butts Remix was co-produced with the Rupp brothers) and Home Free's "Story of My Life" video was shot and edited by Layne.

VoicePlay has ACA Top 10 Movie Themes featuring Rob Lundquist. Home Free has Ring of Fire (featuring Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix). Right after wrapping up on filming the video for Ring of Fire Home Free started filming the Tim Foust original Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. Since Avi was still there hanging out with his buddies, he did a quick cameo, just walked across the set in front of the guys then went back to where he could be seen behind them. (Note: Tim also wrote the followup to that one, storywise, called Full of Cheer. No need to wait for the holiday season to enjoy that gem.)

Bottom line: each member (& former members) of all these a capella groups is an excellent musician in their own right. And each group has their strengths and weaknesses. So what if someone does/ doesn't like someone or something; we all have different tastes, and that's what makes the world go 'round.

They are all great, but I just love VP's sense of humor and their theatrics. Speaking of, the last two songs to drop are amazing, spooking and Layne's beautiful sense of humor really shines. ❤

Rather than competition, I prefer to think of their collaborations. Avi Kaplan (former PTX bass) has been a guest in Home Free's videos. Both Tim Foust and Rob Lunsford have guested on VoicePlay videos (Tim in Just Sing and Rob in the ACA Top Ten Movie Themes). During the Sing Off (or possibly during the tour after), Tim taught Geoff his trademark growl technique (Geoff doesn't use it often, preferring subharmonics, but he'll still break it out every once in a while). Geoff has provided arrangements for Home Free, most notably sharing the arrangement of Elvira that VoicePlay toured with; with some adjustments by Tim, this is the arrangement used in Home Free's performance of that song along with the song's original performers, The Oakridge Boys. Rob Lunsford also co-hosts a movie podcast called the Avid Indoorsman, and VoicePlay has been guests on at least one episode there. I'm probably missing other crossovers; those are just off the top of my head. By all accounts, real friendships have been formed throughout this community, and I think this drives them more than competition. Artists thrive on those sorts of relationships,

I love that VP and HF have so much respect for each other as artists and performers. They collab together and coexist and talk each other up as creators and not as competitors. It's a beautiful overlapping community. VP did some Aca Top 10 medley pieces, Rob is in the Movies one and Chris did Bro Country with them. Tim pops in for a cameo in Just Sing. You have even more fun arrangements to look forward to from VoicePlay. Mountain King is a masterpiece unlike any other. Oh, and if you like Omar, I can't wait until you hear his big brother, EJ Cardona. (I Can't Make You Love Me and Go The Distance)

Zombies vs Hillbillies is so much fun. I understand they were practicing at using this if they got kicked off the show (NBC’s Sing Off). Just makes me laugh. So glad you liked it. 😆

I did tell you of this. You did Hoist the Colours and I put a list of VoicePlay Halloween theme songs, one of which is Survivor: Zombies vs. Hillbillies. I get such a kick out it, I simply had to let you in on it 😁

When they were on the Sing Off, Voiceplay did not have the creative control that they have now. They had to add a female voice. She was great, but they weren't able to be themselves. I'm not a big fan of the competition for that reason. This lineup is older than what you've seen before. Tony Wakim was the baritone, J.None replaced him in 2018. Because the makeup is so heavy in this, it's hard to recognize them. Earl is there, but no beard. That being said, I enjoy your reactions to Voiceplay and Geoff so much, I have watched every one of your reactions multiple times. Tim Foust was with them when they did Just Sing. It is a song they did with past members and collaborators as a fundraiser for an organization that was helping musicians during the pandemic. The closed captions identify each person and gives their history with Voiceplay and their artistic credits. Rob Lundquist joined them for ACA Top 10 Movie Themes. Geoff appeared with Peter Hollens in a Christmas Medley that he did. Acapella is a small world.

I have to admit VoicePlay did better with the arrangement; there are some nice embellishments there! There are a number of videos of Sing-Off Tour performances on KZbin. VoicePlay and Home Free incorporated some music and comedy bits from their own shows and did other bits together.

Just because we don't agree doesn't mean your perfectly valid opinion doesnt matter. I don't understand the venom here. Geoff has made songs for Home Free, Avi has been involved, Voice Play competed with Home Free and sang with them later. A Capella is a small group, most of them a friendly rivalry. Fans are the ones that make it awkward

Poor Rob! They prepared this song if they had to face off with each other. They never had to do this on the show, but it was too funny so they did it for the tour these groups did after the show. There is a video showing the 3 beatboxers competing against each other; Layne, Adam, and the guy from Filharmonic. (Sorry, I dont know his name).
