Great video. I recognized that equipment the minute I saw it as I worked at both those gyms and reconditioned that equipment many years ago. Lots of history there. Many great bodybuilders both amateurs and pros have used that equipment. Thanks for paying tribute to the best old school gym in western MA history and one of the best gym owners.

Mike Katz was the MC for The Gold’s Gym Classic and Ct State Bodybuilding Championship in New Haven, CT in 1995. Jimmy “Iron Bull” Pellacia was there to sign autographs and the guest poser was Dorian Yates. The show was 3 weeks after he had won his 3rd Mr Olympia. He was my favorite bodybuilder at the time and my best friend and I had his book Blood and Guts along with Heavy Duty by Mike Mentzer. I lived an hour north of Albany, NY and my buddy went to Springfield College so I drove out and picked him up on the way. Jimmy and Dorian were both awesome and Dorian was an absolute monster when he guest posed. Mike Katz said he weighed 275 and he looked it. He posed to the song Scentless Apprentice by Nirvana. I play it every time I put on my lifting playlist in the gym to this day 😊

Thanks for sharing the history and tour. Katz is always a favorite. That equipment is a great investment that still hold’s dynamic energy and I’m glad you have it! Back in the day Lee Haney and Rich Gaspari were training partners and trained at the gym I managed for a couple months before their debut win. They needed to get away from all the riff raff, but what a treat!

Sweet. I had asked a few weeks ago about a gym tour. Stumbled upon this vid. Great history and equipment. I scored a lot of my equipment from Craig’s list and other sales type of sites. My biggest score was 1,200 lbs of plates and dumbbells for $200. Some guys Grandfather was cleaning out his shed and garage and just wanted it all gone. So it was 1,200lbs of Cap plates and dumbbells two plate trees and two bars. A dumbbell rack with collars for $200. Back in 2012 when I got serious about lifting. A little kid ( about 15 years old) had an add on Craig’s list for a bench and Olympic weights for $60.00. That score was 300lbs of plates two dumbbell handles the bench and a bar for $60.00. I’ve only paid retail for a EZ curl and Tricep bar at a local sporting goods store.

If you don’t mind me asking. How were you able to bring down the pec dec machine? Did you have to dissemble it? Or did you just take off the weights? I’m asking bc I know they can be really heavy.
@Bloodandguts2.0
@Bloodandguts2.0 Жыл бұрын
Sure thing!! We just needed to take off the weight stack. I was able to strap it to a dolly and get it in. I have a few more pieces I will most likely need to disassemble more to get them in. If you are familiar with the old school body solid equipment (like the peck deck), there isn’t too much to disassemble on that equipment, these next pieces are going to be interesting.. The old school body solid equipment is HEAVY!!!! But awesome !! I also have a sick mono lift and a bad ass old school straight weight smith machine, both definitely won’t fit because of the height. So I’m planning to design a outside gym at some point .
