I was one of Joyce’s coworkers. She was an amazing nurse, mentor and friend. She was so intelligent, extremely organized, energized ( we often wondered if she slept )and always had a smile on her face. Joyce gave so much love and had so much more to give. Her family is devastated. We are devastated, as are her patients and all that had the privilege of knowing her. We lost such a bright light and as difficult as this is, we can hear Joyce telling us to “Rise up and press on.” She taught us well. 💔

She sounded like such an amazing, loving person. I can only imagine what it was like to work alongside her. My heart breaks for her family and everyone in her life. If there is anything I can do please let me know. I have her go fund me in my link tree. I have thought about her pretty much everyday since this happened and how this could have been prevented. I am so sorry for the loss you all have experienced. 😔

I can't even finish this bc she is assuming so much and getting it so wrong. Joyce loved Elara caring, it was her passion. People are angry and outraged but they just don't have the facts. I'm still grieving this loss but I am confident that this wasn't at fault of the company. Yes we knew his hx. Plus it wasn't a PRN visit, he was seen daily, weekends included and yes we have support available on the weekends. This was a crazy tragedy no one saw coming. It took a long time for the arrest bc the police needed to have a solid case, they made sure everything was concrete. Everyone knew it was him but arresting someone before all the evidence came in would have led to a weak case and possibly even letting him out again. Hopefully he will spend his life behind bars. VNS- visiting nursing services.

Fellow nurse here. Really sick and tired of companies putting their money in front of our safety, our own health as well as high stress situations. Just really burnt out right now & honestly I’d walk away in a heartbeat if I didn’t sincerely love my patients. This case is really heartbreaking 💔

I agree with you completely. This was so preventable and a complete lack of support from the company. It’s sad that we can’t expect the bare minimum from some of these companies.

Unfortunately it shows the greed that comes with corporations buying out HH companies. Luckily there are still many great HH companies but we just have to scare the ones like this out of business.

Utterly devastating. My heart breaks for this family and our home health community. I did a travel contract with Elara. There was absolutely no safety training. Another nurse started full time when I did and quit before my contract ended due to lack of training and support. All training was done over a conference call and focused on hospice basics and emr. I wasn’t even given a list of team members to call for assistance. Nor was the new hire-who did not have home care experience. The culture was hustle to get patients no matter what.

Thats awful and heartbreaking to hear but unfortunately is what I’m hearing from a lot of former Elara employees. Healthcare shouldn’t be a business. 😔

I am horrified about this. Was she warned about this man?

They knew about who he was and the house she was going to. He had always been a dual visit but this visit they did not have another nurse to go with her, so they sent her alone, which they should never have.
