A series of short videos showing the up-cycling of various items of scrap metal and plastic into a useable pressure generation device.
Contains sawing, milling, turning, drilling and tapping in the home machine shop.
For demonstration / teaching purposes, as part of my day job as a medical equipment technician, I need to be able to produce an oscillating (air) pressure (of say +/- 20mmHg) overlaid on a static pressure (of maybe 250mmHg).
The absolute pressures aren’t critical; however device creating them would need to run for up to an hour at a time, reliably producing the pulsatile pressure waveform whilst maintaining the underlying static pressure without any net gain or loss.
The oscillating pressure component is required to fool the medical equipment into running a simulated treatment.
The underlying static pressure needs to be adjustable at will to create under / over pressure alarm conditions that may be encountered (e.g. through blockage or leakage) during a typical therapy session whilst a patient is connected, but in the classroom environment where no patient is present.
There are many possible approaches to the design, but with no budget, time, materials, tools or any other resources allocated to the task, I elected to complete the device in my spare time in my home workshop using odds and ends I’d collected from the scrap bin.
Created with subtitles (click the CC box) for the hard of hearing, or when you need to keep the volume low.

OK, that using a pin through the center in the mill vise for perimeter roughing was WAY cool. Got my subscription :-)

This is really quite nice work - the filing guides in the last video as well were truly a nice touch.
