Looks very easy to make. The other day I was browsing thrift store (picked up nice cast iron dutch pot with lid) and I saw bunch of crackpots of different sizes from $5 to $9 dollars. Was thinking of dedicated pot for bullet lube. How many cups would you say you make? I am trying to gauge how big of a pot do I need.

I don't really have a 'standard' volume I produce; because I lube with a Lyman Lubrisizer and home made sticks, I will generally make an entire crockpot full and then pour into my stick moulds to stock up.

@@TATVCanada @Dima Prok How do you guys mould the lube sticks in to a cylinder with a hole for the bolt?
@TATVCanada2 жыл бұрын
@@JoeStMars I've done it a few ways; the one I find the simplest is to take some large diameter fender washers that just barely the inside diameter of the tubes, then put a long bolt through them. I put the outter 'housing' of a ball point pen over the bolt (so the wax sticks will slide off, vs the threads which they will definitely not slide off). You can just pull them out easily afterwards. Alternatively you the can use small diameter dowel with the fender washers, but you'll want to sand it very smooth so the wax sticks can be slid off easy.

I'm curious, what is the purpose of the STP oil treatment? I know the beeswax is the base and the petroleum jelly is the softener, but what is the STP for? Great video and I'm going to use this for my black powder bullets.
@TATVCanada4 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% certain as I'm certainly no chemist; but I believe it helps keep the petroleum jelly from breaking down.

I know most BP shooters say to stay away from petroleum products in lube for Black Powder. I believe it makes the fouling way worse and harder to clean. Stick with natural waxes and products. Non-petroleum

I've seen some people on KZbin make lube out of wax toilet rings they bought at home improvement stores. Have you ever tried it? If not, it might make an interesting test (nudge, nudge).
@TATVCanada5 жыл бұрын
I've heard of that as well, however paraffin and soy wax can be purchased on their own so cheaply I don't think there's much advantage to using the seals. I've been working on some formula testing with beeswax, paraffin, soy, and carnauba waxes. Maybe I'll pick a few seals up just for kicks.
@johnstewart88493 жыл бұрын
And you can get used ones pretty cheap!
@JoeStMars2 жыл бұрын
Toilet rings are made of a wax with a flame retardant mixed in. I've had a friend use this toilet ring mixture before and the yellow toilet ring wax coats the barrel. You have to warm the barrel and really clean it out after. Bullet Lube should burn up when you shoot the bullet.

Toilet rings are not beeswax. Do not use these at all.

Non-petroleum for black powder, smokeless is ok. Reason being I hear.... is petroleum products make the BP fouling A LOT worse to clean out and makes it hard.
@StrengthAndConditioning613 жыл бұрын
Assuming this is for smokeless powder loads versus black powder since anything with petroleum in it for black powder is a no no?

Smokeless yes.

Forgot to ask, how smoky is it when fired?
@TATVCanada6 жыл бұрын
This particular recipe isn't too bad; the big factor seems to be how much petroleum jelly you use. I've actually been working on a new hard-lube recipe trying things like beeswax, paraffin, soy and carnauba in different concentrations; I'm still perfecting it but when it's done I'll be posting it as well. So far it seems to smoke even less.
