Got all the axis moving in unison, still plenty of work left. To read build log and see current progress visit www.cnczone.com...

Top, I like it. Later, always move the Z-axis out of the danger zone first for the reference run and then the X and Y axes at the same time. Best regards from a Germany in decline.

That's cool was there any milling that needed done to make it? Great job a feat of engineering.
@TheFlyBullet2 ай бұрын
In general you can say: if you want to build a big milling machine, you're gonna need an even bigger one to produce it.. The big square 'pipes' used here as frame are far from straight and even when you get them.. so to mount the linear rails you should mill those faces flat.. other than that there shouldn't be that much milling involved

Looks great but when machining won't the empty tubing echo and become super loud?
@goffzh4 жыл бұрын
Yes but only half finished here, it got filled with epoxy granite.
@goffzh3 жыл бұрын
@Frauenarzt Dr. Stefan Frank It was about 950lbs, with maybe 90 being epoxy-granite. I'd skip the epoxy granite and just use thicker steel for a do-over.
@goffzh3 жыл бұрын
@Frauenarzt Dr. Stefan Frank Yes, there's a hollow core. Epoxy was expensive and very time consuming to implement relative to stiffness plain steel provides.

Nice machine. I'm building something almost identical to that right now. Only, I'm going to weld some plates inside the tubes for some more strength. Mind if I ask how you made the flats where the rails are mounted? And, did you make the XY table or adapt a premaid one? Actually, I know people have asked but do you mind posting the designs/more information online? I'd prefer not to leave my email address in a YT comment.

Hello, what is the difference between a hybrid stepper motor running at 3 phase alternating current and a hybrid stepper motor operating at 2 phase DC, please help and thank you very much
@nowar92203 ай бұрын
Thats fkn noice dude!! Im gonna make one bit similar, chunkier, more like a modern vmc industrial frame! Throw in highest grade ground ballscrews with double nut for zero backlash Highest grade rails Closed loop precision steppers A bt30 spindle with top line ceramic bearings Secondary nakinishi e4000 spindle (40krpm -1micron runout) for precision operations So i can make watches and machine steel with ease all in the same machine. Il scrape in all the mating surfaces flawlessly Aiming for machine repeatability of below 5 micron (0.005mm), kerns are 1-2 micron repeatability lol Quite ambitions! But who has 100k+ for a precision machine capable of smashing steel and precise enough for large watch movements!? NOT ME!!

how can u use all the z axis distance, cuz for example if you are making a cylinder from an aluminium block, wouldn’t the drilling motor hit the block? (Sorry if my English isn’t good)

Nice work, but how do linear rails go under load compared to machined cast iron dovetails?
@TheFlyBullet2 ай бұрын
A lot of big machine manufacturers (like GROB comes to mind immediately) are using linear rails for quite a while now instead of cast iron dovetails and it works a treat, it's much easier to manufacture an if used the right way absolutely on par with cast iron, often even more precise... And alot easier to Service! Cast iron needs a specialist with alot of time to fix them if something is wrong, rails can just be replaced if in doubt.. The big problem I see here tough is that the surface you mount them on needs to be absolutely level, and level to the second rail also... That'll be quite difficult to manage without access to a big milling machine I think...

Greetings! I am a young engineer from St. Petersburg, Russia. In our country, working with such equipment and tools, I'm afraid of this word, is a luxury. In addition, the education system itself and the actual training of specialists are far from perfect. ..ready, with your help, to lead the directions of interest in this environment. Respond!

I designed and built this based on reading other people's blogs about their projects and deciding what features I wanted and my own fabrication abilities. Go explore a bunch of other's designs and figure out what you can do.
