Home-made motion decoy DIY

Duck butt decoys are seldom used, so I thought I'd try to create new purpose for one. Amazon - weasel ball, tail removed and a single AA battery, about an hours time, and now I have a motion decoy on the water. This is what a duck but is supposed to do anyway, as a duck feeds below, there has to be motion. Tell me what do you think?

Thanks for your video. I had thought of trying the same idea with a cheap floating decoy head up, maybe your diver is a better idea! . But i was thinking of of how to close up hole temporarily to put in weasel and take out weasel , now i have an idea from your video. Thank you!

Sure is allot of work to do just to GWT motion in your spread....its too easy to buy this product it isn't that expensive....

How much noise does this make? I would think that noise might be a problem in a decoy.

Originally it did make noise. I lined the inside walls with a foam stickyback 2" wide tape, and now it is almost silent. The inside bottom i glued in a sandpaper disk, for traction, and can faintly here a skid sound once in a while, but I have to be close to it. I am happy with this now.

I'd wager that when the ducks got close enough for the noise to be an issue, it would be too late for them! ;-)

Try using a rubber bottom inside the decoy. It will give the ball more to grab to and maybe reduce the plastic on plastic spinging.

fill that bottom keel up with sand as much as you can pack into it hot glue gun both ends to keep the sand in

Next time put the keel in a vise and use a hacksaw with a wood blade. Cuts through that decoy in about 10 seconds. That's how I take off the keels on decoys that leak to make them into field/ice decoys.

use jig saw with metal cutting blade ...... I cut pvc pipe all the time

Yes it did. The down side is the batteries die fast when it's real cold.

I used it several times. The weakness is the batteries only ran an hour or so. Action was good on flat water like a pond, this made good ripples on the water and moved enough to fool birds.

@@redroofretriever did you consider building a small battery bank? You could pretty easily rig up something relitively small with lithium batteries, or even an old cellphone battery. It wouldn't take too much work to setup, and it would still be cheap, and you could waterproof it relitively easily

I had something Like that but one truck weight on the bottom holds it up right but alowes more movement since it's less weight to move but mine is on the bottom of Herion marsh lol my buddy and I were out and had a wood duck hen I said to wait till she clears the decoys but 4 shot took the decoy and the duck down with it

What did you use to put motion into it? I might remove 1 weight and see if it gives more motion. easy to do.
