RGB looks awesome. Rack airflow should be front to back and bottom to top. The Synology and Ubiquity stuff is designed that way. Replace your fan at the bottom with the AC Infinity CloudPlate T1. Block all gaps in the front with blanking plates to prevent hot air from being ingested by the front of the equipment. The smaller NAS at the top is blocking airflow. Try turning the shelf around and moving it to the front. Believe me, I’m a network engineer who builds server farms in data centers. Over all great build.

To anyone with that same UPS and is having the same issue with mounting it and the weight, get a block or something to support the back of the unit. I had to do this for my unit recently. The rack ears are designed for flat bottom cabinets not cabinets that have a gap in the bottom. CyberPower does make rails for these from what I've heard.

Great work. I have the same cabinet. For anyone concerned about noise, I would replace the top exhaust fans with the AC Infinity Rack Rook Fan Kit (AC-RRF7). This solves the issue of the loud, always on fans. This kit extends your other cloud plate device using it (and it's temp sensor) to control the top fans as well. Plus these fans are much quieter than the fans that come with the cabinet.

Great setup. I have a complete Unbiquiti network at my home as well. Cloud Key Gen2, a USG, 2- 150w 8 port switches., 1- 16 port USW switch, 4- UAP Pro access points and 1 in-wall UAP-AC-M-Pro. I need to upgrade to the UDM Pro to handle my throughput. The USG is not robust enough. I'm choking out my network speed @ 1000mbps up/down. But I really enjoy my Unifi equipment.

Those brackets that attach to the UPS are just to attach the handles. It's not meant to then mount the UPS to the rack. You're missing the rail kit. They basically look like "L" shaped metal rails. The UPS then just lays on the ledge of each "L" bracket. Then you pull/push on the handles to slide the UPS in/out.

Do you need a special cable to attach the nas to teh UDM via 10gb or can you just use a regular Cat 6 cable?
@benwiddop7128
@benwiddop7128 3 жыл бұрын
Depending on your nas it will probably be Ethernet, cat6 can do 10gbps however the udm can only do gigabit on one lan port but if your nas has SFP+ support which is the special connector on the right of the UDM then you will need a special cable to do 10gb

Check that you can remove the front panel of the UPS to replace the batteries now that you have it mounted so low. You don’t want to have to disassemble your entire rack if/when the batteries fail. I have the same setup with a Cyberpower UPS mounted at the bottom of my rack, but I placed it on a 1U shelf that is attached to both the front and rear rails - that way it’s elevated off the bottom of the rack so that I can replace the batteries in future.

The only thing I typically do differently is install the switch above the router. That way when you do get a patch panel, you can put it at the top and have all your incoming lines routed at the top of the rack instead of going in-between equipment....also makes it easier when servicing the rack from behind.

Nice job! You’ve started a new trend: “Pimp my Rack”. Now everybody has to add RGB to their racks to keep up. I guess it’s my turn now.... I’d like to see more about the RGB install, particularly how you attached it to the frame. I have the same rack and similar low-power devices populating it, and if you leave the back off, which is what I do because of the cables, you don’t need to turn on any of those fans with that light-use setup. The Synology NAS drives don’t generate much heat and neither do the Ubiquiti devices you have. If you were running a high end server generating a lot more heat then it would be a different story. Congrats on the new house with CAT6 wiring!
@TomasVillegas
@TomasVillegas 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. The Synology does generate a good amount of heat, especially the expansion unit. I've tried leaving the top fans off, but then the cabinet starts pushing 80-85 degrees and it's winter here in Utah. I plan on upgrading the fans to a quieter setup. Thanks again for the comment 🤝

That AC Infinity. I don't really see the point. How it can draw in cold air from the bottom when the UPS is blocking it? Also, it seems that whatever it shoots out is then blocked by the NAS devices. You would have been better off just putting it at the top of the rack or making sure that it can suck air from the floor (might need to get a dust filter) by just reversing the position of the unit to be mounted on the "back" of the rack.
@TomasVillegas
@TomasVillegas 3 жыл бұрын
I put it in place there to help pull the vented air from the Synology DiskStation and the expansion bay. The AC Infinity is tied to top fans already as there are two installed in the top of the cabinet. The cabinet is an enclosed system.

Hi Thomas if I was to take a picture of my rack you would laugh as it looks like your. My cyberpower online same model came with a rail and I can slide it in and out but don't see the point.
@rudiservo
@rudiservo 4 жыл бұрын
I think those rails are upside down, they should not leave taht much space then something is mounted.
@TomasVillegas
@TomasVillegas 4 жыл бұрын
So the numbers on the rails should be upside-down? 🤔
@rudiservo
@rudiservo 4 жыл бұрын
@@TomasVillegas I was talking about the L shape support rail that was holding the UPS, you probably mounted it upside down, the weight is making leverage force on the screw rather then against the frame. If that makes any sense!
@TomasVillegas
@TomasVillegas 4 жыл бұрын
@@rudiservo ah! I tried both ways. Too heavy for both.

@@TomasVillegas Really? wow... well if you get one that can handle it just tell us what you got, maybe a hole video on shelfs and rails is a bit too much. Thanks!

The switch on the UDMPro is pretty useless, it only has a 1gbit backplane.

I thought reaching out for support meant to get help on installing and configuring and not getting stuff for free. What's wrong with todays society..

Why so sour? It took a lot of work to put this thing together. Not to mention the work it took to create this video. You seem to misconstrue this video as magically appearing on KZbin. This body of work is mutually beneficial to Ubiquiti and myself. I hope your 2021 is good to you and your family 👍
