RGB looks awesome. Rack airflow should be front to back and bottom to top. The Synology and Ubiquity stuff is designed that way. Replace your fan at the bottom with the AC Infinity CloudPlate T1. Block all gaps in the front with blanking plates to prevent hot air from being ingested by the front of the equipment. The smaller NAS at the top is blocking airflow. Try turning the shelf around and moving it to the front. Believe me, I’m a network engineer who builds server farms in data centers. Over all great build.

To anyone with that same UPS and is having the same issue with mounting it and the weight, get a block or something to support the back of the unit. I had to do this for my unit recently. The rack ears are designed for flat bottom cabinets not cabinets that have a gap in the bottom. CyberPower does make rails for these from what I've heard.

Great work. I have the same cabinet. For anyone concerned about noise, I would replace the top exhaust fans with the AC Infinity Rack Rook Fan Kit (AC-RRF7). This solves the issue of the loud, always on fans. This kit extends your other cloud plate device using it (and it's temp sensor) to control the top fans as well. Plus these fans are much quieter than the fans that come with the cabinet.

Those brackets that attach to the UPS are just to attach the handles. It's not meant to then mount the UPS to the rack. You're missing the rail kit. They basically look like "L" shaped metal rails. The UPS then just lays on the ledge of each "L" bracket. Then you pull/push on the handles to slide the UPS in/out.

Do you need a special cable to attach the nas to teh UDM via 10gb or can you just use a regular Cat 6 cable?
@benwiddop71283 жыл бұрын
Depending on your nas it will probably be Ethernet, cat6 can do 10gbps however the udm can only do gigabit on one lan port but if your nas has SFP+ support which is the special connector on the right of the UDM then you will need a special cable to do 10gb

Check that you can remove the front panel of the UPS to replace the batteries now that you have it mounted so low. You don’t want to have to disassemble your entire rack if/when the batteries fail. I have the same setup with a Cyberpower UPS mounted at the bottom of my rack, but I placed it on a 1U shelf that is attached to both the front and rear rails - that way it’s elevated off the bottom of the rack so that I can replace the batteries in future.

The only thing I typically do differently is install the switch above the router. wow... That's one heck of a build. Nice one. Just want to say 2 things.. 1. Won't it become a vacuum cleaner if it stays on the ground like that? With that much airflow coming from the bottom. 2. Weird there are only ~550 votes when this video has been watched 20k+ times.

Nice job! You’ve started a new trend: “Pimp my Rack”. Now everybody has to add RGB to their racks to keep up. I guess it’s my turn now.... I’d like to see more about the RGB install, particularly how you attached it to the frame. I have the same rack and similar low-power devices populating it, and if you leave the back off, which is what I do because of the cables, you don’t need to turn on any of those fans with that light-use setup. The Synology NAS drives don’t generate much heat and neither do the Ubiquiti devices you have. If you were running a high end server generating a lot more heat then it would be a different story. Congrats on the new house with CAT6 wiring!
@TomasVillegas4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. The Synology does generate a good amount of heat, especially the expansion unit. I've tried leaving the top fans off, but then the cabinet starts pushing 80-85 degrees and it's winter here in Utah. I plan on upgrading the fans to a quieter setup. Thanks again for the comment 🤝

That AC Infinity. I don't really see the point. How it can draw in cold air from the bottom when the UPS is blocking it? Also, it seems that whatever it shoots out is then blocked by the NAS devices. You would have been better off just putting it at the top of the rack or making sure that it can suck air from the floor (might need to get a dust filter) by just reversing the position of the unit to be mounted on the "back" of the rack.
@TomasVillegas3 жыл бұрын
