It's cool that you have your son as a helper. Getting him interested in computers and IT early opens a lot of opportunities later. Fun parent/child activities.

New viewer here. I’m a huge fan of Ubiquiti. I have a A/V business in Maryland. I used to stay away from network stuff because it was harder to explain to my customers what was happening with their system. For the last few years I’ve embraced Ubiquiti. It’s easier for my customers to understand and I’ve had no failures. I like the way you have everything laid out in your system. It’s not the way I would do it but I understand, because KZbin. Pretty isn’t necessarily necessary. I put hot stuff at the top and cool stuff at the bottom. I hope that doesn’t need explaining. BTW viewports are awesome, but pricey. That’s the first thing that comes off of the job when cutting costs. I think they’re required but… I know I talk too much, sorry. Keep us updated on your experience please. Thanks

Makes sense. Thank you for the input. Definitely always changing/improving the setup as time goes.

What would be cool is add a fiber optic stand or some sort with the wiring of the patch cables with a clear sheathing. This way the leds from the new switch would shine light in the whole cable.

Interesting idea. I’ll definitely look into it 👍

I recently got the 24 Pro max as well, I downgraded from a 48 port poe switch. I've had the viewport for 2 years now and has not failed me. Love your home set up Thomas and enjoy you videos.

Would love a setup like this, maybe next year, if I buy a house and can afford UniFi gear

If you don’t buy it all at once it’s more manageable. One piece at a time. 👍

What do you think of their NVR? I am bummed I can’t use my unraid server for storage of Protect.
@Polkster134 ай бұрын
One small change that I would have done is switched the UNVR around with the Console. Then I would have purchased the new 0.15 M DAC cable from Ubiquiti to go from left SFP port on the switch to the top SFP port on the console (and set it to be LAN). Then I would have run the SFP cable from the back of the UNVR around the side to the other SFP port on the Console. Of course, if you were to upgrade to the UNVR Pro, then all of the ports would be on the front which would make cabling a bit easier. Personally, I just do not like cables running in front of drive bay doors. Your next purchase should be an aggregation switch and run all of your 10 GbE ports to it. Especially if you have a computer or NAS that has 10 GbE ports. It appears you need more than the four SFP ports that you on the switch and the console.

What Ethernet cables are you using are they braided? Looks nice.

Yeah, they're braided, unfortunately Amazon no longer sells them. I found these to be a close second best to the orange ones. Affiliate LINK - amzn.to/3AHmMri

The USP Port is for the RPS power system. It is NOT a UPS; it is a redundant power supply. So if the switch is connect to the RPS unit made by Ubiquiti and the power supply in the switch were to fail, then the Ubiquiti RPS would keep the switch powered on. The only caveat is if you power down the switch with the bad power supply, you will NOT be able to restart it as the switch only uses the power supply that is in the switch from which to boot up. In this scenario, since the switch now has a bad power supply, it would not boot up. Hence the reason to get UI Care for the switch as not only does it extend your warranty from 2 years to 5 years, but you also get expedited RMAs. This means that once you start the RMA process, they will immediately send you the replacement unit (before you send them the defective unit) and you have a bit of time to send them back the bad unit (if you do not return the defective unit they will charge you for the replacement unit). So in the case above, the RPS unit would keep the bad switch running until the new unit arrived. Then you would swap out the bad unit for the replacement unit, and then you would send the bad unit back to Ubiquiti. This would greatly minimize any down time due to a bad power supply on the switch.

You can remove the AC Infinity fan controller. With the rack open like that, and the room ventilation that you have...it is completely unnecessary.
@TomasVillegasАй бұрын
But then I’ll just have a 1U fan controller laying around 😩
