Home Office: Built-Ins Organization

To see a room with books is a rare joy these days. I have discovered the delight of audiobooks lately. I can listen to new books and old favourites while simultaneously getting all my household chores done. And even while doing the more mundane duties, I'm never bored. Books = happiness.

We painted all of the rooms on the second floor, just left the hallways colors as is. This color is Lazy Sunday from Benjamin Moore.

There are few design elements better than built-ins! Should I ever buy another home, I would custom build & have built-ins in most every room. (My dream home would have a huge butler's pantry & a "clutter room" between the garage & kitchen! HEAVEN!) I vote YES on an updated tour of the grooming & sewing desks. I think it's very relevant to see how organizing changes with use/need/acquisitions & will probably go through several stages of tweaking over time & complete this series nicely. Great job

I love those built-ins! They are exactly what I envisioned for both sides of the fireplace in our home, but the left side was larger than the right, just like yours. I thought having uneven cabinet sizes would bother me, but now that I see yours, it's absolutely perfect. Thank you! I can totally see fabric in those cubbies. What a fun room, it must make you smile every time you walk in, and it's the perfect space to be creative. Winnie snuggling the bee was too cute.

It does sit right over the garage, but I'm not sure I'd consider it to be a bonus room. It fits nicely into the way our house is arranged. I'm not sure of the dimensions...all I know is it's generously sized! :)

No, if it were to eventually by a bedroom I'd move all of the furniture out. I was saying that the builtins would still function in a bedroom setting.

The colour of your room is so pretty blue and white are such a crisp and clean combination. The wrapping papers and bright colours around add life to the room. Ohh and the purple owl is sooo cute. The white furniture is very very nice. Love it.

Jen - Would you mind (when you are are finished with this craft room series - or as a finale), doing a 360 degree scan of the craft room? It's such a huge space - and so well organized, but I can't picture it ALL in my mind. I see little areas, but can't imagine it all together. THANKS! Loving the series!! (BTW...I DREAM of having a craft room like this! So - HGTV/MARTHA/magazine/Pottery Barn catalog-ish. SOMEone of those needs to grab you up!)

You should totally turn those old family photos and cartoons into a photo book. That way they are scanned (and backed up!) so you have them if something happened to the hard copies AND you could order copies for your family!

We do have a cleaning lady that comes to the house for a few hours once a week. I keep it tidy in-between with light surface cleaning & vacuuming.

If there's a fire that severe in our home ever (hopefully not!), the only things I'm thinking about saving are my husband and our dog. They are priceless to me. I come from a family of enthusiastic picture takers, so if we were ever to lose our photos, there's plenty of them circulating around the family.

there are 7 in my family including 2 toddlers, so you can imagine what my home looks like at any given time lol, I would love to have a wall of cupboards just to store things in, actually probably several walls of cupboards so nothing would have to be out.

Great room--your home is an organizer's dream! I have always been organized, but I have to admit, I get some really great storage solutions from you! I really liked seeing the sample of your grandfather's art work--he was very talented! I would LOVE any suggestions you might have on corralling large amounts of photos and organizing them into albums. That is my next big project and I just can't seem to get started. It's so overwhelming! Thanks for all the great videos!

Love this room! But what if there was some sort of natural disaster (fire, earthquake, ect) and you had to evacuate? How would you be able to grab all of your important family photos and documents and everything in time? Do you have a system between you and Don? Just wondering, I'm from Oklahoma and we get a LOT of crazy weather so I've learned to always be prepared :)
