I can use most DAW programs, I use GB for videos because it is the most universally used beginners program with Mac users and that helps get the views. However that all being said, I still use GB a lot. The reasons being, I am fast on it, it does everything I want it to and it sounds really good. I have never found a limitation in GB for my needs.

Every music-making-advice channel should have a beginner's guide, and all of those should prioritise telling producers about the importance of high and low roll-offs. Well done.

This is a good tutorial for beginners! I know it's been quite a while since this was uploaded, but I'm just going to drop by with my opinion; I think you're using the word "Mastering" wrong. Although it's nitpicking, I think it can help to know that mixing is the process of setting levels AND audio processing with EQ's and similar. Mastering in professional terms often mean going into a separate program with only one track (the master track) and compressing and EQ'ing to make sure the sound level is competitive and the separate frequencies impact on the track is similar. Simply put its about making everything be equally loud WITHOUT individual MIXING. But it's just a small detail. Very good explanation on HPF's and LPF's btw! Super important to get that right.

Closing your eyes and listening for each instrument is something every newbie should do. Over time you will get accustomed to frequencies (and their sweet spots in the mix), and one big thing. LESS IS MORE. EQing is an abused art form. So just tweak here and there, and listen to entire mix when you make changes to hear it in the context that others will eventually hear it in.

It really depends on your taste, your room, your preference. I can say that if you find your mixes to be bass heavy in general, than yes turn it on. Either way, you should turn it on and see if you like it or not!

I just wanted to say even though I've been doing this for years (auto didactically) I have learnt a few things from you in the past 30 minutes that could potentially make my rap recording sound a lot better. I got my new macbook a few days ago and one of my goals is to start recording again. Was doing random research on how to make my vocals sound more professional, bumped into your channel and I really dig it. You know your shit and explain it very simplistically. Thank you =)

Pro Tools might be harder to learn. One plus for Pro Tools is that if you ever want to take something you've done to a professional music studio, chances are good that they are using Pro Tools as well, so you can just hand them your entire project.

Have you ever had that feeling of: "Humm... This guy is talking to me!" I know it just means I am making the same mistakes as most newbies, but I picked up at least 3 things I gotta pay attention to in my next mix. I've been mixing with headphones only... Studio monitor headphones. Monitors are on my shopping list but I've been postponing it... I guess I must get them sometime soon if I'm serious about making my mixes sound better, right?

good points, but to high pass a bass guitar at 150 hz is way too high , then you're getting rid (!) of good information, I wud rather recommend cutting at 30-50 hz , and if u're hearing too much bass , use "low-shelf" or bell-cut to decrease it. Most importantly, make sure u spend time on the recording process to avoid mixing with a bass djungle.
