I grew up with this game when it came out I’m with you buddy what’s your favorite character or type mines Daisy because balance is key to victory with good diversity and her good pitching !

I still have this game from when I was younger. Definitely in my Top 5 favorite Mario sports games, with Superstar Baseball also being in there. Honestly I don’t have a favorite team or whatnot. Though I do like Yoshi in this game

Princes Vs. KINGS. The King/Queen characters- DK (king of thr Jungle), K Rool, King Boo, Peach, Birdo, etc. are opponets. The Prince/Princess characters- Daisy, Diddy Kong, Bowser Junior, etc. are your team. Win the game- their stats are all boosted just a little. Another idea is STAMPEDE. Win a game of ALL YOSHIS vs. ALL SHYGUYS

I think home runs should have counted as “out” for you but counted as a home run for the opponent. Would have made it way more challenging.
