As a Founder KS pledger, I had access to Jameson Memorial from day one, so I've used that as my shipyard and player base of choice as it has all the equipment. What I intend though is a station base for all my "hero" ships, ie those that are fully equipped and need no further engineering for their specific purpose. For that reason my choice of station is purely from the heart, and it's Ravescene Memorial (my named station from the KS campaign) in Futhark. My choice of home station is George Lucas in Leesti. It's mostly based on RP preference, but it objectively has a lot going for it. As an OP Elite player, when I first started playing my goal in life was to get to Lave and buy a Cobra. I assumed Lave Station would be home, but when I got there I was disappointed to find that you can't actually buy a Cobra there, and as an agricultural system it didn't have the aesthetic I wanted. Staying within the Old Worlds, when I got to Leesti and saw the name George Lucas attached to a high tech station I knew I'd found home. I later discovered that it's the only station in the game that offers two unique commodities, and the system is also home to an Engineer. And being an Alliance supporter, choosing an Alliance system is a HUGE plus. I buy and store a lot of ships and modules at Shin Dezh, but after 3 years, Lucas has one other advantage that no other station has: It *feels* like home. Maybe it's because I play in VR and love RP, but I get a genuine warm feeling when I see it after being away on an extended adventure. I have to also give a shout out to Copernicus Observatory in Asterope, which is my AX home away from home. Great facilities, convenient location, and it's right in the middle of the Pleiades conflict.

I'm a bit torn on this. I have a number of friends that said they'd like to try out ED when it goes free on epic, and I have a feeling that many of them are just going to be massively overwhelmed with just setting up the controls and learning the basics like how and when to ask for docking permission. I think there's easily so much info here that it would make their brains explode... I'm also of the personal opinion that a new player should be learning or getting help with learning to use all the in game tools and resources BEFORE jumping onto external resources like EDDB. It's not that they aren't good resources it's just jumping in and out of the game really destroys the "immersion factor" and becomes more of a crutch if the player never learns to use the in game map for trade data or route planning. One of the things that really drew me to ED was the sense of exploration and personal discovery and for me at least that even translated to discovering the ships in the game. When I first started playing I didn't know how many ships there were in the game and that sense of "ooh what's that" when you saw other types of ships around docks is something I would never trade in for the bland "starship spreadsheet database". Anyhow.... I think is a really good guide for any player who's looking to relocate to a new area, but I don't think I'll be recommending to my friends who will likely be bombarding me with questions like. "why does the throttle gauge get squashed really small sometimes?? "
@CedricBassman4 жыл бұрын
I started about 4 days ago and granted it took me a while to get used to all the stuff, especially manual docking. But the thing with asking docking permission i pretty much picked up instantly. Started in a Sidewinder as everybody else, moved to a Cobra and started hurling Cargo from one place to another and i got around alot. I then bought a Type-6 for even better Cargo moving until i finally took upon mining. After a little bit of trial and error on how to do it and one helpful guide later i made 40 Million in my first mining run, purchased a Krait MK2 and went off with that for mining until today i finally purchased an Anaconda and equipped her pretty good. Took that one for a Mining trip and now i'm sitting at 200 Million Credits, with a Vulture and a DBX in my dry dock aswell. Next thing i'm gonna do is grind rep for the Corvette ( i just want that damn thing, it looks awesome!) get the Engineers going and then i'm off to explore in my DBX, probably.

The internet does take away a lot of exploration in games in generals. Even a walkthrough removed some of the content of a single player game. Now we have the same thing, but spread in 100s. of videos and websites for a very big online game. But you are free to ignore all those external resources of course. Now that I have a carrier I don't care if anyone else uses mine. You have to get a permit but Dark Star in Tiliala was my home for the longest time. The permit limits traffic and since most gankers don't bother with useless permits you're pretty safe from human players. Dark Star isn't far from the main star and there is a HazRes near the station too; great for combat testing your builds. It's also located near Shinrarta so it's pretty centrally located.

Well, you missed out on the most important part imo. The number of different minor factions represent in the system. More factions means more missions which again means more profit/hour.
@davidfisekovic14824 жыл бұрын
I mean it's pretty hard to get al the searches, he showed the general search that you can change yourself to suit your needs. For example bounty hunters will be looking for resource extraction sites, pirates may look for interstellar factors and poeple playing missions for othe things. A single search can't suit all playstyles sadly.
@MrHurtighans4 жыл бұрын
@@davidfisekovic1482 Agree, and it's not even possible to look up the number of minor factions in a system, i guess. Dave always does a good job, but I was just missing out on that information - maybe a way to search for the number of factions.. Most tubers focus way too much on ship discount and module availability. I mean, it's just not so often you need that, compared to doing missions.

Hallo. My Nickname and Callsign is "Stingray" or "Ray". So "Ray Station" in Diaguandri is... the BEST selection. As an old Star-Trek Nerd, i love "LHS 3006", Leonard Nimoy Station. Good Beginner System (Station near Entry, close mining ring for PVE, all Systems nearby got ther stations close to the sun _ short ways, good cargo missions, good passenger missions. Relaxed System.

I imagine Jameson memorial being the obvious choice as a home station for many players once they hit the rank Elite, but for me it's too much for an obvious choice as a target for Thargoid or other possible negative events, as a station where you have access to everything, and I don't want to keep all my ships there for that reason, besides Earth isn't too far away, just a couple of jumps, which is where I keep my ships, and when i need equipment, i just hop over to Jameson Memorial.
@SpartasEdge3 жыл бұрын
@Obi-Wan Kenobi I would also say hitting the station that is named after the guy that led to their defeat, and the home of the best pilots, would send a strong message. Sol system I imagine, would have extremely strong defenses and the hardest fought for, for the reasons you mentioned, and untold ships would be launched from Earth itself. For the Thargoids, it would be like throwing their ships against a brick wall.

I'm currently in Bursch Enterprise in Saktsak system, I don't know why I ended up there, but is nice, close to almost everything, it has a technology broker, a material trader, and I have VERY close a planet (Saktsak AB 5) with one of the richest ring I've ever seen, like 4 Void Opals hotspots (even a double) a couple of LT diamonds, tritium, alexandrite, and a bunch of other I don't even remember minerals.. I don't care much about discounts, I can do ~260mil in one run of void opals and I sell them at very good price just a couple of jumps away, so money is not really a problem

Many thanks for the great videos - really helpful to newbies (me). If you are ever stuck for a topic, after a lot of searching I am still baffled as to how minimium shield sizing works. When I have a ship I want to use for delivery missions only (ASP) and want to put the smallest shields in it that are only ussful for interdiction or the odd bump, I cannot work out if the shield stats just need to cover the mass of the empty ship, or the ship with max cargo. And are bi-weave better for this use? Any help on this much appreciated.

HAHAH it's so funny, I see you guys looking for info on how to _play_ games the same way I do to _MAKE_ games (looking how to do occasional obscure things, that are not easy to find in any tutorial etc. In my case it would be how to... like, how to apply a percentage of the Hand bone to the foreArm Twist bone, in Unreal Engine Blueprint or always little stuff like that... ;)
@MikeB_UK4 жыл бұрын
@@schoolhomevrtechnologyassi6286 Don't understand your comment. In ED to fit out a ship you usually have to buy a shield module. These come in all sizes and strengths. After days of interweb searching I still cannot understand the max/min strength requirements as no proper explanation. I think a lot of people just buy the biggest and best they can, but I (and I presume others) would like to know how to actually size things properly. Details in ED are crazily complicated.

I think the criteria you are using should be redone by who kind of role the person plays. Like combat, or doing runs to and from close systems, or mining... Want to only mine diamonds and sell in same system there is one perfect for that. Want to only to conflict zones with missions for that as well there's a perfect system for that as well.
