I'm enjoying Sutliff 507-S stoved Virginia and have a few tobackies that are just harsh. I'll try stoving them. I'm wondering if the stoving process is oxidation, Maillard or something else.. Those are canning jars.They can absolutely handle 200F. The idea that other containers explode - I doubt that, not at 200F. The problem is that ovens are not 200 everywhere. The element gets certain areas much hotter and then it evens out.

Very interesting experiment! 😂 Can’t wait to see the reviews, I hope you haven’t spoiled them. The only thing that worries me is loss of moisture, I would have extra hydrate them before putting the lids back on the jars! Good Luck!👍

I actually had a conversation with Jeremy Reeves on this subject and there are, of course, many different methods of stoving. This method is considered a "dry stoving". I am unsure as of yet what the results will be but, we will find out this coming Saturday if a rehydration is in order. I am very curious to find out what changes have been made to be sure!! Thanks for stopping by brother, stay tuned! Happy Piping!

Awesome Dallas. I think I might have to revisit this video in the future. I'd be afraid of breaking glass, or my wife throwing a jar at me 😉

So cool. Wonder if I should stove my Royal Yacht? Hmmmm...... Lemon, bronze and heavy body (whatever that is) Virginias. Thoughts?
@FullDottle4 жыл бұрын
With the additional flavoring it may cause issues but, what is your desired result? After my conversation with Jeremy Reeves last night, I can safely say the end result SHOULD soften the tobacco and deepen the flavors with a slightly sweeter tone. With Royal Yacht being very robust (according to what I read), it may mellow to the perfect tone? My process was a dry stoving, Jeremy said a moist stoving (apply distilled water before stoving) will have a bit different effect (but that will be discussed in an upcoming episode 😉). I would be very interested to hear if you decide to try! Ultimately, if you think the blend would be better mellowed, then I say go for it! Happy Piping DPP!!

I've heard of people putting their mason jars out in the sun to do the same?
@FullDottle Жыл бұрын
Hey fellow piper! That may work depending on the climate where it is performed I reckon but remember, the temps have to get hot enough for long enough to caramelize the sugars within the leaf. Either way, there's nothing quite as exciting as a good experiment! Take what you love and play with it! Happy Piping!

Or you can put those jars into a pot with an inch of water in the bottom and simmer for 2-3 hrs
