In this video, I'm showing and demonstrating how I use JVC NX7 installation modes and lens memory for different aspect ratio content in my dedicated home theater with a 163" Seymour AV scope ultra widescreen 4K HDR projection setup. Kaleidescape is the pictured source in this video. I am using this setup as a CIH (Constant Image Height) configuration.

I wish JVC on their top-of-the-line models would allow for different lens options. Sure, the lens would cost more but I think people would totally buy them. Barco makes a projector that comes with 2.37 aspect ratio lens for a couple of their 4k projector. I would love it if JVC made a 2.35/2.40 lens and their standard.

I could certainly use a shorter throw bigger image option! 😄

One thing you could do is change the aspect ratio from auto to zoom while you’re in “wide” mode. This would scale the image to use the full 17:9 panel, thus allowing you to throw a larger image on the screen. Technically this would add some scaling artifacts, but I doubt you’ll be able to tell (no one I know could tell a difference). I do it on my JVC with any aspect ratio over 16:9 (such as 2:1, 1:85, 2:35, etc..). It’s one of the advantages of having a 17:9 panel. Just a thought

I have absolutely no experience on any projector so I can’t comment. I think at this point in my Life I will never own one only because it’s only me. To me a Screen is meant to be shared for the Theater experience not 1 person! If I had a family I would definitely have one but I will 👍 your video to help you out!👴🏽

Cool video! Very informative, that screen is awesome and huge! One note you can use the mask function to stop the overspill on the bottom of the screen, gibe it a try. It makes your kaleidascape look like it has a native 2:40:1 aspect ratio

Yep! I missed the element of masking in the video. I'll be checking out the masking options here soon and updating my lens memory settings for a future video. Thanks!

Thank you very much for sharing. I’ve been using a 120”, 16;9, for the last 10-12 years. I’m upgrading our screen and projector in the next 6 months to something very similar to what you’re using. I have a couple quick questions for you. You mentioned your projector not being able to use the full width of the screen because it was too close, approximately how far back is your projector? And, what gain screen are you using and are you happy with it? Thanks again for sharing this information,

You're very welcome. There are a few other videos on the channel building on the same concept too, so check out the Home Theater playlist. My projector doesn't fill my screen because of throw distance, yes. I need to be another foot back. The projector is around 17' or so back, I think. The screen a Seymour AV Center Stage XD, slightly under 1.0 gain. I think it looks great. Some folks might calculate it too dim, but I don't think so and other folks in the hobby I've had over haven't felt it too dim either. I would look forward to eventually getting a brighter NZ on it though, ideally an NZ9.

Great info. I would love to have a screen that big but the biggest that fits in my theater is a 133’ 2.35. I don’t have a Panamorph Paladin yet but I do have a Lumagen that handles all my video processing needs. With my Sony VPL-VW695ES you basically zoom it to fill the scope screen then go into the Lumagen menu and put in the screen size info and it auto formats to the constant height. So all those pesky Amazon and Netflix shows/movies that are in that 2.00.1 gets auto formatted to 2.35 and when I’m watching 16.9 media it auto formats that to 16.9!even though the projector is zoomed to 2.35. Then if I want I can engaged Non-Linear Stretch if I want it to fill the whole screen to get rid of the side black bars. As I posted on your question it the best purchase AV equipment I have. I only want a Panamorph Lens to get the full 4k resolution and the 30% brightness you lose when using the zoom feature of the projector. I can’t remember how much resolution they say we lose when zooming in.

I'd love to play with a lens and such in my room and see the difference first-hand. I'm sure I will at some point, one way or another.

does the zooming affect the picture quality ?
@Techthusiasm
@Techthusiasm Жыл бұрын
No. Given the ability to fill more of my screen space and use more of the projectors pixels for more light, I think it provides a net significant improvement. The only real downside is that image/pixel scaling is being done to upscale the source image across more pixels, but I don't think there is any visible negative impact to that scaling.

I have a stupid question, but maybe I didn't fully understand it: can't you just zoom in even more to fill the whole screen? Or can the NZ7 not zoom in any further, or will the resolution then be too poor?
@Techthusiasm
@Techthusiasm 8 ай бұрын
There are limits to which any lens can shift and zoom. Just physical limits.

Ok, thx alot! What size canvas would you recommend? My room is 185.4 inches long and almost 143.7 inches wide. With the NZ7 I would realistically have a distance of 163.4 inches from the screen. I can do 114 inches natively. Can I probably go to 118 inches, i.e. bridge the slight enlargement using a zoom? Or would you not recommend this?@@Techthusiasm

If you're only at that size in your home theater, I might actually recommend just getting a 100" or so flat panel. For the projection though, it depends a bit more on your viewing distance. How far back are you sitting? Using the zoom is really only something you'd want to use for wider than 16:9 content as well. There's a lot of "it depends" in your questions that are specific to your room. I'd need more information.

Thank you very much for the feedback, I really appreciate you taking a moment to address my concerns. I'll sit about 145 inches away from the screen. Maybe a 100 inch TV would be more suitable? But I really appreciate the naturalness of a screen in contrast to a bright TV, which is tiring for the eyes. The disadvantage is that at the back there is a 1.42 m sloping roof, so i can't put the beamer right under the roof.

So, I sit about 13' back from a 163" scope screen in my theater. I'd say you can certainly go bigger. 😀 Note, I do paid consulting calls to help folks out with their systems, setup, and planning. Message me at techthusiasm_jp@outlook.com if interested.

why can't manufacturers just make and sell cinema scope projectors to eleminate all the years of chaos of messing with lenses, lens shiftings, external video processors, masking methods etc
@vjay4297
@vjay4297 2 ай бұрын
It's available in the market. I'm afraid that you won't be able to afford it. What we need is auto aspect ratio detection in the projector. It should automatically change modes.

@@vjay4297 you must be talking about those barco 5K native cinema scope projectors. you are right I can’t afford them. And yeah we exactly need that aspect ratio auto detection and scaling technology in the projector for those people like me who love constant image height screens.

You have all this fancy equipment why stop there why don't you get a paladin panamorph lens so you can watch scope in all it's glory without any loss of resolution .

Probably will, eventually. Just a matter of throttling my spending a bit. This works for now. I put a lot of $$$ into the space in the last 6 months already. I also wonder for a next big upgrade about lens vs. NZ projector itself, especially if I can somehow manage an NZ9.
