Thank you for being honest about the functionality and "cool factor" about separates. I'm glad you admitted that they don't really add to the functionality of one's system, in contrast to an AVR. Having said that tho, I begrudgingly broke down and got a 5-channel amp for my Sony AVR (amp is also Sony as well), but only because the AVR was running VERY hot, and I have an AV Rack. As you admitted, all things being equal, it's best to preserve the AVR (or processor) over anything else. In my 7.2.4 setup have my LCR's and side surrounds going to the AMP, and the AVR handling the rears and heights. I also wireless subs that connect seemlessly to my AVR, so no additional separates are needed. Also, I get that you're an Anthem fan, but why is there little to no love for Sony on most of these HT channels? Everyone talks about every other brand but Sony.
@Techthusiasm11 сағат бұрын
Sony doesn't make products for audio that really excite me, to be honest. I don't expect to use a receiver again in my setup, and I would want something on the order or ARC Genesis in any future gear for my spaces.

Great video! I only had time to watch part of it, but great content from what I've seen. Technically, the lens doesn't improve resolution, since we're stuck with what the media provides. But it increases pixel density, which, for more people, translates to a 20% or so brighter picture. I thought long and hard about getting a Panamorph lens, but after I upgraded from an NX5 to an NZ8, my picture was bright enough. I went from 85 nits NX5 running at high lamp to > 100 nits with an NZ8 running at laser power level of 46 (and aperture turned down a couple of clicks). So, I decided that the picture was bright enough, and if I want it even brighter, I can always increase the laser level from 46 to a higher value. My projector is in a storage room behind my HT, so I don't have to worry about fan noise. Granted, my screen is a 133" 2.40:1 ratio 1.2 gain screen. So, folks with much larger screens (like yours) can see some good benefits with the lens. I learned about the Panamorph lenses from the Panamorph DCR forum in avsforum. @DLCPhoto has some really good posts explaining the math in how the lens increases pixel density for 16:9 and 2.40:1 ratio content. He also has posts on how the lens can complement a projector with and without madVR (bottom line, which I agree with, is: madVR takes priority, and then get the lens next if one needs a brighter picture.

Ok. So you spent ALL that money - only to mess with the aspect ratio that the film makers intended. If they were watching this, they'd be shaking their heads - or laughing them off! Do you think they'd mess around with their own hard work like this? Just zoom the picture in & out with len-shift for CIH and have simple side masking curtains like a proper cinema. I've been doing this for years even withOUT lens memory. Easy, and costs about $100 for the curtains.

Not sure what you mean. Are you referring to using NLS? If so, I'm not personally a fan of it.

@@Techthusiasm Huh? What's NLS? I meant exactly what I said in the comment. Our industry spent YEARS trying to get the original cinema aspect ratio finally viewable at home and accepted by the mainstream. And now you're wanting to basically go backwards by modifying all content to suit your own tastes. Madness.... and expensive madness.

Two quick comments. The light coming out of NZ900 is not laser light as such. Laser is used as energy source to energize phosphorus wheel which emits the light that we see. At least that is my understanding. So looking into beam could be dangerous, not sure how dangerous if at all, but if it is, it would not be because of laser light. Could you let us know based on what you suspect you can get permanent damage from looking into beam of projector (and how for how long etc.)? And the other thing is about light meters from Amazon. I have a RS calibrated light meter and my friend has amazon CN knockoff. The RS was twice as expensive. In low nit values they measure comparably (so close to closed iris), but the more the light the bigger the difference up to 30% at iris fully open (only about 50-60 nits in that case). My RS meter was (factory) calibrated few years ago so it might be that it has drifted that much but I would imagine that it might be that both are in accurate enough at this stage to lead to 30% difference in higher output light measurement. Would be interesting if you could compare one of your pre-calibration high output modes vs calibrators gear to see how close your meter is. Thanks
@Techthusiasm5 күн бұрын
The manual clearly says do not look into the lens for fear of serious bodily damage. I thought laser projector had extra precaution about this, but maybe it's just because it's just concentrated brightness. Interesting on the meters. We will see what Sammie measures with his pro gear.
