Paige you never need to justify spending your money on your home. We all have our own priorities for our budget. The amount you would spend on a sofa will seem expensive to some and cheap to others. All that matters is that it's within your budget and you like it. Other people's budgets and taste is neither here nor there. You do you and enjoy it

I had to stop this video in the middle because suddenly I had the feeling of putting all my art on the wall. For real. I was waiting to do it for months. For me, putting pictures or art on the wall is very scary for some reason. But it's necessary for the cosy feeling. And I have a lot of art (lot of them made by me). Thanks to Paige they are all up on the wall now, and it looks great. You are very inspirational!

I was once told that when you purchase a really nice, pricey piece don’t cheap out dressing it up. It deserves the nice finish. It was hard to embrace that given my bargain-hunting nature but I do see the wisdom. Spend the extra when it makes sense to make things look fabulous.

I actually love the pattern on the sofa you can have it steam cleaned and bring it home and take your time looking for fabric. ILOVE the fabric you purchased for curtains
@rmonson5002 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would wait to see the piece in the space before I selected a fabric. Sometimes seeing it in the space draws you in a direction you didn't expect to go. And the original fabric will feel different at home than in the store. Buuuuuut don't listen to me, I agonize over EVERY design decision. It takes me a minute to pull the trigger. Especially with "big ticket" items.

I kinda love the 2 chairs to actually be in front of your front window (where you’re putting your couch), instead of your couch blocking that view. Plus I always love the idea of setting 2 single chairs in-front of a window just to stare out of it lol 😌 (that’s just me putting in my two cents that doesn’t matter lol)

Yeah, for furniture, you've got to focus on upholstery weight fabric. But if the fabric you bought is "drapey" enough it might make some nice window treatments. You've got a really nice place. 😊

I'm liking this content. It's too bad that the shopping part weirds you out because I enjoy seeing that process. (And, Paige, ya can't just grab any old fabric for couches and chairs. You generally need upholstery fabric, which I kept explaining to the screen as I watched.) But, yeah, fun! The process, the thinking, it's like being a part of an experience. And! I'm so glad that you pointed out the closer together rather than far apart with the two pics. Good to know.
@Springer_Mom Жыл бұрын
Don’t settle or skimp on the fabric for the sofa, it needs to be upholstery quality. I know West Elm is not for you but they sell their upholstery fabric by the yard and it’s not that pricey. I know you liked the distressed velvet in the color called “dune” because you commented on it in another video. It’s what I have on my couches and I felt so validated when you said that the fabric was nice 😂 I’m kinda regretting not getting them in “golden oak”, though.

The bent wood of the sitting chairs are amazing and an instant classic that will never go out of style, but also would fit with any setting really. They quietly draw attention without distracting from the more ornate pieces of the room. The streamlined art deco essence is going to be great for tying in your modern and traditional pieces. Great find!

Yes! This was EXACTLY the kind of video I was hoping for! I love where the two pictures from Paris ended up and the bigger piece at the entrance. Also (my two cents only) I'd bring the couch home and start using it while you search for the right upholstery fabric so you have time to find something you love (and you have a couch in the meantime!) And the green/gold fabric you bought I think would be terrific for curtains or an upholstered headboard.

I know nice fabric is expensive, but it will be worth it in the long run. As you said, you are investing in these pieces for the future! A cheaper, thinner fabric will wear down faster than an expensive, more heavy duty fabric that is made for upholstery. Plus it would make the pieces look cheap too if you use cheap fabric... And keep in mind that you need fabrics that has at least 20.000 martindale.

I feel that too, I have bought a cottage in a river town in Australia, and walking through the colour on the walls is 80s. So buying paint yesterday - any paint will look better that what it is, so I ended up with a neutral grey, and then a mint colour for the living room. I think I went with the mint because it is so fresh and I am starting there, anyway paint is paint and seriously anything is better than what is there (we have been calling it baby poo yellow)!

I think the art on the mantelpiece could benefit from having a wooden or dark frame. The bright white frame makes it feel a little like it's just hanging in the air and doesn't tie the wall hanging lamps and the fireplace together. Do you have some large painting with a darker frame that you could try?

Couldn’t agree more. Original fabric so much better. You can have it cleaned. And watch out and chose something that is appropriate for upholstery- weight, fabric content is super important if you are shopping someplace that doesn’t list content and Wyzenbeek or Martindale test results. Shop at upholstery fabric stores/ showrooms, not clothing fabric.
