IDEA: so I noticed when a lot of KZbinrs do remodel videos, the save the entire process for one video and wait till the room is “perfect”, but I think it would be super cool to see progress videos, maybe just of some items or furniture you got, paint colors your thinking about, and just the realness of where you are at in the process! It would be cool to see how it all comes together that way :) your house is stunning. You really waited for the perfect place! The character is amazing, so excited to see how you transform it !!

One could definitely just lay straight flagstone or quartzite slabs in the gravel without removing it. You definitely wouldn’t want to replace it entirely with something non-permeable; the more drainage, the better. Even though So Cal is a pretty dry climate (or perhaps because of it), runoff and drainage is a real problem when it rains here.

I Love everything about it, the art deco Tile countertop and tile in the bathroom. The storage and Bar area in the Kitchen, the very nice roll down blinds the fireplace, the office, the green paint and the quilt in the bedroom. Congrats on your new home! I love the arch on the ceiling, the windows, the kitchen, all those cabinets where the washer/dryer are. I don't know about the fireplace - the mantle, that tile and the shape of the opening - but, it'll be fun to see what you do with it. This reminds me of when I bought my own home - it was built in 1933 & was dripping in character, the entry had a small glass block window and a closet, and the doors were shotgun. The living room windows were bay windows and the fireplace was double-sided into the kitchen. The ceiling was recessed with crown molding throughout - the wall arched into the dining room with built-in cabinets - and there was a sunroom they added with french doors. I loved the huge clawfoot bathtub & separate shower... Can you believe it was sold As Is by the family of an old man who died, the only owner. I got it for only $75,500 in 1995! It wasn't even listed, I drove by, it looked empty, I got out to go see and a real estate agent drove up to see it for the first time. I bought it immediately. My kitchen had a small pantry with round shelving that pulled out, a light, and a screen floor for keeping a bag of potatoes, fruit or whatever. There was a drop down ironing board, corner windows - a little laundry room with a sink and a window. I took out the built-in vinyl diner style table and seats - and put in a row of floor cabinets under the window, used a door as the countertop with tempered glass. It was my coffee and baking counter - under corner windows - view of climbing roses. I used joint compound to cover my bedroom walls bc I had to strip many layers of wallpaper. So, I used plastic gloves and made a design like I was finger painting. It turned out so good. I had to sell it in the Great Recession of 2008... sucks. It was in Central CA not far from L.A. (I don't like L.A. haha) I can't wait to see what you do with this space - I love your style and you've got a cool personality. Have fun!

That sun in December! How I miss LA! 🤩 I used to live in East Hollywood (I was a broke student) and honestly, that weather really made a difference. It really lifts the mood. Also, as a European, I can totally understand the joy over the French windows. Most of So Cal’s original suburb boom was built out with these teens-20s-30s bungalows, giving name to the term “California bungalow” and creating a housing style trend that was copied across the country (including by the famous Sears and Aladdin kit homes; many of ours in California are by our own west coast equivalent, Pacific Redi-Cut, but even more were built from scratch to with published plans that were popularized here) These homes are now becoming century-homes; my parents bought a 1919-built one in 2020. These first suburbs tended to be just outside of city and town centers, so now they are called downtown or central neighborhoods, instead! Despite being built en-masse, they weren’t often developed as large tracts, and they retained the high-quality building techniques and finish that would famously end with the post-WWII suburb boom (but lead to lots of experimentation and innovations in modern home building). You can see these neighborhoods packed full of historic bungalows with their own sweet personalities, mixed in with historic revival styles like cottages and adobes, all over the US, but they are definitely a California thing through and through!
