I love actually love a mantle as well but since we have so much shelving, we decided on a more sleek look. We now have the Sonos soundbar so it worked out that we didn’t do the mantle. Definitely to each their own!

Looks very nice but the TV is way way too high for normal use. You'll have a neck aches watching from a seated position. Ideally the center of the screen should be no higher than eye height when seated.

The height works great for us because it can be seen from everywhere when entertaining and when we are in other parts of the great room and still works for us while on the couch.

The TV placement is a little too high. The TV is there for you to watch and not as a decoration; therefore ideal positioning is most important. If you want to go for looks, you should skip the TV all together.

Thanks for your comment but it’s actually not too high for the room we have (which is not all shown here) because when we entertain people watch from all areas of the large family room from a further distance. So we thought about functionality and looks with this design

@@LaurenLux That's exactly what I am saying. If you a large place with multiple areas to entertain, it's okay to be relaxed on height when placing the TV above the fireplace. With today out of control housing cost, I hate to see people with just one TV viewing room messed up their fireplace TV combo by placing the TV too high because they put too much emphasis on the looks over functionality.

Hi, nice video. I am hoping to have the same setup. I noticed you don't have a mantle (I am not a fan of mantle either) to deflect the heat from the fireplace. Is the heat from the fireplace not affecting your TV?

Great question. It is not. We used a thermometer to test how hot it would get and there is enough distance between the tv and fireplace that it’s not an issue. And since the fireplace is electric, we can control the level of heat.

We have 4 built in speakers on the ceiling and had one of the cabinets cut out at the bottom for the sub so it can sit on the floor :) If we had the sound up really loud we just open the cabinet door.

Thank you so much. Yes. The company we hired did them all custom so I’m not sure how they built them but I do know there are lots of cabinet diy’s on KZbin you can look up. Some people use ikea shelves and then build around it to get a custom look. But any professional could add to what you have there already I’m sure

Hi there! All the electrical was moved to one side of the fireplace wall. We had a professional do this so I don’t know the details. But then there’s a hole cut out in the cabinet next to it so that everything can plug in easily and sit on one of the shelves.

It's a concrete filler usually used for filling concrete cracks and this was the natural color of it. I'm not sure of the brand.
