Just wanted to say “thank you”! I’m six months pregnant and nesting has taken over my whole life. Today I moved all the existing furniture out of what will be the new babies room BY MYSELF with the mantra “if macenna can do it and figure it out, so can I!”. Started painting and putting up wall paper in there too! I feel so accomplished and so much more likely to tackle projects after watching your videos. Things I used to think I could only do with my husband I now feel confident to try on my own. Thank you!

I was once told that owning a home was like painting the Golden Gate Bridge. They paint one side all the way across. Then paint the other side back. At that time the first side is ready for new paint. Similar to your mom's advice. Although i like her phrasing better. It's good advice for people thinking of buying. It's your largest asset and biggest investment. Love it and live in it. ❤❤

I know what you mean about houses needing upkeep, and attention and $$. I did First Time Homebuyers education workshops for years and tried to alert people to the long term commitment homeownership requires. You are fortunate you have the skills and dollars to care for your new home and the Cottage
@mayetcrawley5535 Жыл бұрын
Hi MaCenna, I totally agree with you saying that all homeowners have to maintain their houses. We bought ours eleven years ago and we spent the first fours years doing it up ( previous owners left it to rot ) my husband did all ceilings and down to picture rail ( we have eleven foot ceilings) then I took over and did the rest of painting. We have now just sold and are moving to a brand new house, I’m so looking forward to choosing paint colours and or wallpaper instead of crack filler or worse, what brand of plaster we want. I’m so invested in your renovations at the cottage and your L.A home. Good luck with everything!!!!

We started a project on the basement stairs and opened a wall to find out the previous owner CUT THE SUPPORT BEAM and removed the support anchor for the first floor!! We had to end up adding a wall in the basement to ensure the house, literally, didn’t fall down. Ended up okay and really cool- we created a secret wine/speakeasy/storage room… it was scary and a lot of work. Grateful it all worked out okay.

We opened up our basement ceiling to find out the previous own had cut into a first floor joist, too. Like, what are people thinking when they do this stuff?! It made us gut the basement back to the concrete just to make sure we didn’t miss anything else they did that needed fixing (spoiler: we did 😅).

I heard financial advice (here on YT😊) that you should expect to spend/save 1% of your house value on your house each year. I thought that was great advice to get my head in the right mind frame! What we don't need to spend in a year should go toward saving for those BIG expenses that come up ever 5-10 years or so! ❤
@RebeccaTreeseed Жыл бұрын
Oh funny! I told my son this :) I added in that if the prior owner did not maintain things, you pay.
@ang_131 Жыл бұрын
I budget like this, too. But that’s just regular maintenance. There’s another saving category for renovations, where I include major maintenance items like new roof (that could eat up your whole 1% even if you save for 10-15 years).

Yes to quilting! I got into the hobby six months ago and have been loving it. I've long wondered why it isn't featured more by interior design youtubers. Making your own is so special and adds so much to a space. My biggest tip is just keep going, one the quilt is finished and washed and dry you truly can't see any mistakes. And mistakes just prove that it was handmade!

I am so in love with your backyard! So is Kinsley afraid of the pool since she fell in? I agree with one of the others you need to buy her a flotation device of her own. Do you know they have those with like a net floor in them so she could literally sit in the middle and feel water. But I noticed that she was not even trying to get down on the first step.😢 I don’t want her to be so bold that she will get into it while you’re not there, but I would love to see her be a happy, baby in water just like her mama!!!!

Hi 😊 a suggestion maybe about the fridge placement: if you move the door on the other side, you can make a bigger pantry with beautiful double doors on the longer side and place the fridge next to the shorter side. You can maintain the infamous triangle but also keep all food (fresh and pantry) in one area (easier to put groceries away) whilst still keeping everything relatively close to prep and cooking areas 😊

I think you will enjoy the entrance of the kitchen staying where it is, coming from the living room. It is a better flow from your bedroom, and of course, from the living room where you probably spend a majority of your time. An option could be to expand the doorway (since it needs to be altered anyway because of the awkward arches). A larger entrance will be appreciated when you’re hosting. The kitchen is a big in and out zone, and since you only have one doorway, expanding it could help with multiple people passing through. Makes sense with the new scale of the kitchen as well: Bigger kitchen, bigger entrance. Love you and your channel. I look forward to every video.!💚

I completely agree about home upkeep. We have friends that complain that their "house is crap" but it's just that typical maintenance that needs to be done. Maybe I'm in the minority but I enjoy that part of homeownership. There are always new little things that have to get done and it feels great when you them checked off the list. There's a phrase that I like, something to the effect of you should be a good steward of your home. I'm going to take good care of the property for as long as I'm here and until I pass it off to the next family.
