Yes I'd keep the tarmac to a minimum. Cobbles are way cuter, we're doing our whole court in cobbles, it's also concrete now, but very old and cracked. Tarmac also cracks when plants grow next to it, because of their roots. Cobbles age nicely imo. But if you'd ever like your kids to ride around the house on a bike or step, skates, maybe go for tarmac or new concrete (is a bit more durable) since it's smoother. I'd love to see you pressure wash the stones you have by the front door though! They'll clean up soo much!
@melpixton79334 жыл бұрын
I personally don’t think you should do any of the driveway in tarmac as it just looks ugly 😬😬 concrete slabs or having it all cobblestones would look far better in my opinion
@izzykate80094 жыл бұрын
If it’s within budget, I’d definitely look into getting a resin driveway instead of asphalt! Block paving also looks lovely but only if you like jet washing it every 6 months 😂

I am loving the house transformation video’s and it’s lovely to see it all starting to come together as you have the time during lockdown. The garden transformation and the cosy seat in the unused kitchen area are my personal favourites. However, for the drive and path: my opinion would be to tarmac the driveway with the border of either the bricks or potentially a cobble path border which would lead into a cobble path along the front of the house and along the side of the house. Rather than the tarmac everywhere as I feel the tarmac would ruin the aesthetic of the front of the house with the grass and concrete steps etc After seeing other comments, I also love the idea of a resin driveway. The path leading to the steps and the path running down the side of the house could also be resin and you could still have the brick border. Personally, this may be my fave idea. Loving the videos, keep up the good work. Lots of love xx

Exposed Aggregate for the drive and pathways would look amazing. Its concrete with pebbles embedded. You can choose the colours of your cement as well as pebbles. A light colour would brighten up the front of the house dramatically and would match the white window frames. Excited to see all these renovations!

Tarmac with the edging on the drive and the side of the house. When you have kids you don't want cobbles cos they're uneven for walking in! Paving slabs will be lovely on the path to the house! Look really pretty with the roses! Classic house vibes.

1000% paving in front of the house and tarmac on the drive and down the side of the house. Makes it more homey and less industrial, I agree with Carys, not all tarmac. LOVE your garden looks gorg xx

Have you looked at resin bound driveways? Kind of similar to tarmac in practicality (James) BUT look prettier than tarmac itself.

Hello James and Carys from the U.S.! Whatever you decide on for your drive, I would make sure it’s slip resistant. That being said, I think it would look good with a border on either side. I wouldn’t tarmac your sidewalk going up to your front door, but on the side of the home would be nice as long as you carry on the border to match the drive. For your walkway and the level closest to your front door use the material you use in your border. It will give it a consistency and at the same time make it looked polished. Just make sure the border compliments the color of your home. Carys, from one artist to another, I love your artwork, and I love the fairy lights! Great job! You can show as many of your projects as you want. You’re very talented!

Hi James and Carys- l can see the tarmac vision that James described. Tarmac looks so neat and the driveway will be much more functional and smart. A little less garden to maintain as well at the side front. 💕
@elouiserowlands37434 жыл бұрын
I think you should have a white/ beige pebbles/ stones on the edge if of the tarmac with outdoor spotlights in them to it lights up all the way on the driveway. Then have the same pebbles/ stones on the walkway to the steps, maybe even get some smaller slates/ tiles to put on top of the pebbles to have like a walkway/ stepping stone feel. That way you could get some different textures in and it would look so nice😍

I think you should tarmac just the drive and the side bit, and then do large white block paving stones on the raised part and the little bit of concrete running alongside the garden. Think that would look really nice!!
@jasminecracknell56124 жыл бұрын
Or because you have to wash paving stones often, you could use white gravel
@nachoihschwalbach17034 жыл бұрын
Hi Carys & James, i would not go for tarmac or concrete - this looks cold. i would prefer cobbles but make sure that you can walk with a buggy, scooter (kids), bicycle etc. w/o issues. Works for us well. We don‘t mind the green inbetween (Coming after 3 yrs.). And use a warm color ... we used 3 different colors and sizes of cobbles. Turned out grear, imo. 😀 stay safe and healthy. Hugs from Germany

Tarmac will be a lot less maintenance and easy to jet wash when needed! :) we have paved and we are having to jet wash and get finishing sand to sort it.
@estelle20084 жыл бұрын
I think doing the driveway and area round the side of the house in one colour (maybe white to match the accents of the house) and then the pathway at the front keep as it is or change the slabs but no Tarmac there. Love you guys and the regular uploads ❤️❤️
@bethan33554 жыл бұрын
Stones on a drive way are really good for security, you can hear the stones moving at night if someone is walking around the car or house. We had it once and someone had walked down the side of the house, as our bedroom window was open we heard them straight away
@Smooxox14 жыл бұрын
I defo think it's a great idea to take out the side flowerbed at the side of the driveway, I defo think tarmac the whole thing, I think the concrete is fine around the side but definitely like the idea of tarmac everywhere (with the edging in the areas mentioned) if you want to change it xx

Love you both! Personally, I think tarmac is too much like a commercial car park than for a home. I think it will look really nice to have a paved driveway and then the path and side can also be paved which will flow so much nicer and loook really cute x

Block paving on that driveway would be too steep and you’d get loads of weeds coming through! Be careful of resin paving it can be really slippery when it gets wet! I’d go for tarmac! Cheap to repair and maintain too!

For the driveway idea.. I would do like a fresh coat of smooth concrete that way you could take it to the front of the house and it would still look good and the cars can be on it and be just fine. The only thing is for the driveway bit you might have to texture it so in the Winter month you don't slide down the Hill.
