Home Warranties are Misunderstood...Are They Worth It?

We bought a 10 year old home, and required a home warranty as part of the deal. Subsequently, the water heater went out even though it had passed inspection before closing. Here's the interesting part. The water heater had gone out due to sediment build up that happens over years of use. We learned, you should drain your water heater periodically, and that there are low maintenance models you can get as well that don't require draining. We got the more expensive, low maintenance one thanks to the warranty.
