Aes is unreal. 25+ in the game and he hasn't fumbled once. I've gone through the discography many times, and now I find fun in finding him in a bunch of features and B-Sides.

Well, I did disagree spirit guide to the spirit world isn’t his best album, but it’s not terrible, but it’s not my favourite piece of music I’ve heard, but he still comes with some clever lyrics, but the beat that album is not his best

"Cycles to Gehenna" was a day one favorite when Skelethon dropped. I'm still finding connections in the lyrics each time I listen to it. Love you Sandman... takes true humility to know when we're still the student in the presence of a master.

Mad respect to Homeboy Sandman. Rappers that know what’s up lyrically - recognize exactly what Aesop is doing. Lupe Fiasco has a 30-40 min video on how complex Ace’s lyrics are - separated by the “number of unique words.” (To put things in perspective - guys like RA the Rugged Man are up there with 2K - 3K unique words & lyrics. Aesop sits alone at the top with 4,000 - and no one else is even close. Thing is,…he’s not spitting complex rhymes to make himself sound unique. He sounds unique because of how complex (but on point) his rhymes are. In other words - there is profound meaning behind his words - and isn’t just saying words for the sake of them rhyming.

Exactly this is why I don’t count Eminem as having more unique words than Aesop. He’s obviously just rapping to break records and whatnot. Aesop has no goal in mind but to get his message across

He speaking facts. The best noob friendly example is "long legged larry". The amount of restrictions Aesop puts into his stuff is incredible. Doing something different in each verse while keeping the same subject, and flow/rhyme pattern is crazy. Theres endless examples of this specially in his newer stuff with all the concept albums he's put out. Dude is the goat tbh

Its not for everyone and it sucks cause once aesop clicked for me, i wanted to show people something that wasnt clicking for them. Understanding aesop is an accquired thing in the sense of learning chemistry or calculus, alot of that shit wont make sense at first and once you take the time to understand his equations or setups, all the meanings and variables you were missing start making sense in a structural form. Its like learning a new language essentially.

The delicious 1000-layer cake of nuanced literary finesse, unmistakably powerful and purposeful meaning/intent, and nauseatingly dope rhyme structure/delivery that is Aesop Rock is bittersweet to be a longtime fan of. Not only can it be very lonely, but it's tough knowing you'll never find something new that comes anywhere close to how it makes you feel. As it is, 'boy Sand and Rob Sonic (and you could _maybe_ make an argument for one or two others) are the only artists that can stand below him on the podium and not be obliterated by his shadow. Those who've taken the time to learn his language and wade into the cascade all know well that Aes has no competitors. Dude makes tasty ass beats too. Love Sand for this. My mans is crazy sick with it as well.

Aesop Rock is the best technical rapper of all time and it's not even remotely close. We can talk about other people as freestylers, performers, pop stars, fashion icons, ability to connect with a lot of people, etc but when it comes to quadruple syllable close rhymes with word play and metaphors and technicality Aesop Rock is the best ever.

MF DOOM is definitely right up there in contention for rhyming ability, but isn't as robust as Aes with metaphors and vocabulary. I would say they're tied on the flow aspects of their bars.

I have always wondered why so many US rappers kinda pride that they write tracks on a studio, you know being able to lay down on paper cool verse in say 30min. Ok that's fine and all with say some feat if you can do that with high quality, but rewriting and just all in all taking a time with lyrics seem to be somewhat a bit lost. Like I'm sure many rappers does that, well I know they do but you waay more so hear talking about writing on the spot kinda deal. The ones who just do that could get so much more out of themselves if taking the time and also practicing it to the max before recording it.

Too often hip hop compares itself to chefs, this is one time that the metaphor would stand. I've watched as I've aged hip hop get broken into a thousand pieces and I guess that's change? I don't have to like it, this I love, 2 guys with more kudos in hip hop by people who love rhymes and beats talking about the walking thesaurus that is Aes. And change is important, cos Aes couldn't happen in 1988 when I started listening. I guess that's round about when he started as well?! It's an interesting journey, there's still nice youngers even now, long live the journey I suppose?!?!
