Solid knowledge as usual. I converted a 120 qt rectangular cooler for a mash tun but needed to chisel out the wall insulation and fill the void with epoxy to keep the inner and outer cooler walls from squeezing together when tightening the bulkhead. Also, PTFE tape literally costs 25 cents and will stop the bulkhead from leaking. I'm a BIAB (or mash in a bag) convert. Full volume single infusion mash all the way. Instead of a false bottom in the mash tun, I use a bag in the cooler to hold all the grain. Crush that shit with a .025" mill gap and then drain it off into your kettle without sparging. I'm consistently getting 70% brew house efficiencies. $2 more for grain? who gives a f***.

The linked ball valve doesn't come with the coupler show in the video (bit with the red gaskets). Any recommendations as to what I should buy to replace the missing piece? It would need to be threaded on both sides to allow the washer/ nut to thread on AND the bazooka screen to thread inside.

Have you noticed a drop in efficiency using the tube?

I did that recently after getting a new equipment kit and a new burner. shortly after a boilover (enough to put out the flame) I saw the black flakes floating up, saw the flaking new paint on the burner near my spoon on the table and suspected the worst. Almost threw the batch away thinking I had gotten paint flakes into it, and that was Pliny the Elder, not a cheap kit. I handled it more than I should have trying to strain it out. After I finally got it in the fermenter I was relieved to see that the black flakes were just scorched extract and not toxic paint chips. Between that and the boilover I lost almost a gallon. It still turned out okay. A little darker (hardly a "pale" ale) and a little higher FG than intended. 7.1% alcohol instead of 8%. It's still bottle conditioning right now, but from what I've smelled and tasted so far, I think this "Pliny the Oops" is still going to be a delicious beer.
@alphaomega98852 жыл бұрын
Got it put together. Went together smooth with no problems. I used the false bottom. I have two questions. I have a small leak that im not concerned about, but I want to know if it might be from A. I kept the washer in that it came with or B. I don't know how much I can tighten this. I don't want to crack the plastic. If you turn the spout it spins but its snug. I thought that would be enough.
