Homecoming - Mark 6:1-6

Jesus comes back home to Nazareth and his friends and family can't figure him out. They are so negative that he can't do many miracles but heal a few people. How would you react to that frosty reception?

Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples.
When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue,
and many who heard him were astonished.
They said, “Where did this man get all this?
What kind of wisdom has been given him?
What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands!
Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary,
and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon?
And are not his sisters here with us?”

Father, I can't believe how beautifully you explained this passage in the letter to the Hebrews! I am so attached to people saying good things about my priesthood; instead, of being bent on doing all things for the love of the Lord. Your homily caught me sucking on that bitter root and giving my parishioners the cold shoulder, because they didn't appreciate all that I do for them. Thank you for all the sins that I will bring to my next confession.
