He loves her dearly. I think he fell for her during their walks in the forest. She assumes a lot. "I don't know what it's like on your side, but it must be very... very lonely." Not anymore.

Carrie comes closer, standing over him now. And she leans forward, a narrow-eyed glare burning holes in his face. “You think I blame you?” She snorts. “Don’t… flatter yourself. Because blaming you would imply that what you did to me was personal. But it wasn’t, was it? I was a captured enemy agent. And what you did… withdrawing my medication, stripping me of my last shreds of humanity, watching me claw my nails bloody at those white tiles at night, flinging my waste at your people…” She shakes her head. “You systematically pulled me apart. For months. And then you swung in at the most opportune moment. You ‘saved my life’, and you ‘managed to put me back on my meds for a couple of weeks there’. A ‘couple of weeks’,” she spits. “...out of seven months I was there. You show me some kindness, take me for long walks in the birch forest, have me bare my soul to you…” For the first time since the day they left for Ramallah her face wobbles, and her voice breaks. “You think I don’t know what it’s called, Yevgeny?” She leans closer. “You think I’ve never recruited an asset?” And closer still. “You don’t think I know what it feels like? The guilt, when they finally break? The look in their eyes when they finally trust you?” He uses every ounce of his will power to steady his voice, holding her teary, fluttering stare. “Carrie, you’re wrong,” he says, measuring every word. “I know you think this. And I know it makes sense. But that wasn’t what happened.” Her face is a wobbling mess now, every muscle twitching. “Like hell it wasn’t,” she mouths. “You knew what withdrawing my medication would do to me. And you fucking did it anyway. You broke me. You put me back together again. And you used me. And now you’ve got me here, in your house, day after day, a walking, breathing reminder of what you did. And it hurts. I know it does, believe me. I’ve been there.” There’s barely an inch separating their faces when she breathes her last words for the night. “Damn you to hell,” she hisses. “Damn you to fucking hell, Yevgeny. Because here I am. And whatever you think you feel, whatever you think happened between us, I hope it hurts. And I hope it hurts for a long, long time.”

I don't think it was anything like that. I think his superiors took over. Like Carrie, he actually has a boss that he has to answer to. He's not the head of the GRU. The person he texted after watching Saul's video... that's his boss. That's why he's not the one killing Anna. Or the one handing Carrie over to Saul when they did the prisoner exchange. She thought she could get some kindness from the man that gave her the sugar pill, but the kindness she wanted ended up coming from Yevgeny himself.

Out of all the badass spies I have seen over the years Peter Quinn is the most realistic one! I would have liked to see if Carrie would meet her match in Quinn. There were some romantic sparks between Peter and Carrie over the years, and there was the letter he left for her when he was leaving on a dangerous mission, the photo of her she found among his things after his death. Why do you think the romance between them never fully developed? Because the writers weren’t interested in developing a romance between them... Unfortunately I often wonder what would have happened if Carrie had said yes to Quinn and they left the agency together. Some sort of mutual implosion that I would be legally obligated to point out about them.

I think Carrie and Yevgeny really did love each other? And they had great chemistry? Homeland will be greatly missed. As for the closing scene, there are so many thoughts and questions.... Is she really so hooked on this lifestyle and spying that she would give up everything else? Her daughter? her sister? And love from Saul? There I look at the big picture! Back to season 7, Carrie is broke, has debts, and very complicated relationship with her family. She has no friends left... she was barely talking to Saul anymore the past years and now with Max dead... she was left alone in a world she doesn’t know or doesn’t fit her. She tried to have a normal life (Berlin, New York) but couldn’t. In my opinion, despite the sacrifices, it’s where she’s best. Serving her country, and not in the most common sense as serving during war for example as she’s exposing the US from Moscow, but for the good of the planet apparently. I don’t know about you, but for public the chemistry is just not there 100% with Yevgeny as it was with Brody and Quinn. They tried to force the chemistry and even though Yevgeny is a good actor, he was miscast as Carrie’s love interest IMHO. She had so much more chemistry with Brody a few seasons prior ( apart from Quinn). Interesting things to think about. I think she found some measure of contentment and safety with Yevgney - NOT love real. Yet she still lives on the edge by spying while in Russia. I think Carrie realizes she isn’t good for Frannie and that her daughter, who she loves, is better off with her sister. I’d love to see what her future looks like, even what ends up happening with her daughter. The series left in such an interesting place. I’ve never seen another show that wrapped things up and yet opened the door to so many more possibilities. It was a wonderful close to the cycle of this series. congratulations to everyone involved. On season seven, it might have been something of an unconscious self-fulfilling prophecy. Carrie never wanted to live a normal life so she sabotaged that normal life in spectacular Carrie Mathison fashion, which we saw play out in seasons five and six. That doesn’t make her separation from Franny any less painful, though. So if you look at the finale and think, well, this is better for her than what we saw in the prior two seasons when she was back in the US, I think that’s the point. In other words: Carrie never wanted a normal life, so she didn’t practice or ultimately care about being good at it. When she had the chance to live a normal life, she was, as expected, bad at it. And so she made choices that made it literally impossible to ever have that again. That said, I do love the irony of Carrie and Yevgeny going on this date night together, which is absurdly normal, but it’s couched in her play and slow hand out back to Saul, which is decidedly not. PS: In S4, Carrie/Khan will be lulzy!

She'd give up everything as long as it's for good reason. She isn't hooked on the spy life, she is a spy. She told Saul she could no sooner stop than he could. It's who they are. She gave up everything to stop a war, plain and simple. She told Saul, "No one person is worth the lives of tens of thousands. Hundreds of thousands." That's why she gave up her life in betraying her country. The chemistry is there with Yevgeny, they simply didn't have enough time together on-screen because the show ended. Brody was in the show for 3 seasons. Quinn was in the show for 5. It would've required another season to build the ship to fans liking, but he is the best man for her. He's offering her both the normal life and the spy life. And it's not like she can never speak to her sister, her daughter, or Saul again. The internet still exists, and Yevgeny plays well on the internet. I'm sure he created a private domain for her, for the sake of her U.S. relationships.
