In the comic book this show is based upon, the hijackers were planning on crashing the plane into the Brooklyn Bridge. (I think the incident was intended to be referential to the 9/11 attacks.) The passengers were doomed anyway.

Homelander did the right thing. He gave the entire plane load of passengers hope that the jet could be landed. He did not separate mother and child. The passengers thought they were all going to be saved when he went outside. They thought the plane was going to be landed. I would not separate a mother and child.

The moment he fried the controls, he had no intention of saving them. Even if he tried to think of a way, the risk of not saving all of them would be too high. And even if he succeeded, it would be seen that he put them all in danger by recklessly destroying the controls in the first place. Either way, it would be a PR disaster. Honestly, Homelander has got to be one of the greatest antagonists conceived of in recent history. The brilliant thing is, he isn't even evil. He's just... Lazy. He doesn't want to kill those people, he just doesn't give two shits about saving them if not doing so wouldn't affect him. Its hard to say becuz of the physics of trying to glide a plane from a fixed point is very complicated. You have to think about how massive the size of the plane is plus the weight and velocity. But you make a fair point, they were over water so it was worth a try

@@obienator Superman has an advantage that Homelander doesn't. He has a special aura that gives anything he touches the same lift that he's applying. He basically makes the object or person "fly" with him. This is why he can catch planes, people, and other things without blowing them apart on contact. Once Homelander messed up the controls there was nothing he could do, because unlike Superman he's limited by physics. If he could have saved them he would have, if only to get the praise and satisfy his own ego.

I've never felt so much dread and heartbreak for characters that only have a few minutes of screen time that we don't know anything about. The tension and the way Homelander just doesn't care. You fell every little bit of this scene and I can't believe it's only five and half minutes long.

I feel like the extras acting is SEVERELY underrated in this, as ridiculous as that statement sounds. The passengers sound so genuine when they realize the situation and I think that makes this scene much more tense and depressing. In other news, the sound effect and how his neck snapped got a chuckle out of me 0:33

Homelander resigned to doing absolutely nothing shows just how far gone he is from being a superhero. He is not interested in helping, he’s interested in lording over the helpless humans that he is more powerful than. There’s many ways he could have at least tried to help (in example opening a hole and pulling the plane up/keeping it airborne in other ways) but he is completely flippant.

We've never seen a show where superheroes come to save people, then realize they can't save them, and have to make sure every single person died so nobody will know they what they did. Literally this scene is such a cool new take on realistic superheroes.

This was one of the most uncomfortable parts in any comic book show I’ve ever seen. The prgressive 180 when the pilot was shot and the two slowly walked past all them passengers... I can’t believe it all happened within a span of five minutes!

the issue is that the creator of The Boy make a more...."realistic" physics system Homelander can't lift the plane cause it's in the air, and it's a plane any comic writer picks and chooses what aspect of real world physics still applies in a comic book. In They Boys, a person can't catch a falling plane for 2 reasons a) no leverage, even with super strength, you have nothing to push against. so you would need super strong flight to the point that you can equal leverage. the ability to just fly doesn't mean you also have the abilitiy to fly and generate enough force to stop a falling plane b) the moment you make contact with the plane, your hands rip through the metal. the plane itself isn't strong enough to survive making contact with a super powerful person capable of lifting it

Some are calling him lazy, but imo he's got his game right: 1. Plane can't be lifted because the hull can't support all the weight on a single point 2. Rescuing a few people by landing them one by one after the absolute mess they created will only ruin the reputation of the Seven. The fatal mistake was lasering the cockpit and he admitted "Meave... we're done here."
