Regarding AG Addy, Pleasant Rowland’s intention in creating the Pleasant Company historical doll line was education, not “entertainment”. Pleasant Rowland and Connie Porter decided to start the story of black history with the end of slavery. Black history through AG also now includes Melody (1960’s Civil Rights) and Claudie (Harlem Renaissance and Jim Crowe laws). Black history in the United States is important for everyone to understand. It explains why equality is still fought for today and why Black Lives Matter. The starting line was not the same for everyone.

when i was younger (in about third grade), i was obsessed with addy! she taught me so much about the time period in a way that my school wouldn’t. while the story had a lot of heavy subjects, it never felt like it was too much for a little kid.

That pregnant Midge controversy was extremely stupid . In the line Midge not only had a cutout husband , the doll Alan was released at the same time with their toddler son Ryan in a stroller , grandparents, neighborhood playground friends , the new neighbors Smart house with another married couple Lea & her husband , a pediatrician, a shopping set, grandmothers kitchen the works . Folk’s just want be upset over nothing….Also a couple of years before the release of the Happy family Midge & Alan got married , their was an entire wedding set.

onlyalisa W, in spite of improvements made to this pocket line of Barbie to fit the biblical standard of marriage and family life they still pulled it out of the market, like there is something wrong or shameful about such normalcy, which is now sadly☹️under attack. Plus, they may originally even wanted all of the dolls, to this day even the heterosexual dating ones to remain in single celibacy, for which I DO NOT blame them for, but people are only getting upset over such normal occurrences that's been around forever since time started. I mean on the singlehood aspect of this matter, look at The Andy Griffith Show, for instance, most of the characters, Andy, Barney, Aunt Bea, Opie, Goober, Floyd and the school teacher, Helen were all single, except for Otis, who was the only one on the show that was married, but he was always drunk.🥴

I agree. my sister had this doll she picked it out herself for her birthday. we didn't see anything wrong with it. and as adults we still don't see anything wrong with it. maybe it's because we didn't have our dad's growing up. we're half sisters, different dad's. so it probably didn't phase us

same with the black oreo barbie her controversy was just as retarded people thought of it as the term of a black person acting white.... How are you gonna accuse a doll company for being racist over a Oreo sponsered doll having diversity?

Omg I cannot believe they thought it was a good idea to make the Caylee doll. That is in SUCH bad taste.

Hope Tikvah, it is absolutely such a horrible taste in decent people's mouths. Now, for instance, what if some other little less known and/or little less popular toy company came up with two Barbie dolls based on Denise Naslund and Janice Ott, who both went missing and were killed on the same day, but only a few hours apart from Lake Sammamish at the hands of serial killer, Ted Bundy on 7/14/1974(Sun). Would that company realize the consequences of their actions in causing such a HUGE firestorm as a result of going too far by the 1970's standards?🤨🧐

Some of those you mentioned I never heard of or didn't hear of the controversy. Barbie really seems to get into trouble most since her conception. Sometimes it is just not researched carefully or sometimes I think corners were cut and so the original concepts become wierd. Now the Addy uproar I didn't hear, but find stupid. It is so important that children read about slavery, and remember until more recent the dolls were over age 8. And many school textbooks in schools with less budgets still have very little/not enough about slavery in them to put it into context for children. And that goes for other ethic groups and their struggles as well. So Addy needs expanding not retiring. I also wish they would bring back Cecile and Marie-Grace and expand on Melody.

Pregnant midge was my first ever barbie when I was 2 years old. I still have her and she was always my favorite barbie growing up! I never knew she was controversial until I got into high school

I had the Cayla doll when I was 8, and I remember my brother asked her questions about "adult materials" and he would laugh to her answers. It was really disturbing but I didn't realize it until later.

I really don't understand the big deal about The Pregnant Midge doll. Long before the pregnant Midge my sisters and me would pretend our Barbies was pregnant and we put tissues up her dress. To be her pregnant belly.I thought all girls did that.I thought it was clever of Mattel to came up with this.I for one thought she was married.Since this doll line came out right after wedding day Midge and Alan doll line.So I never saw the big deal.

9:37 Eh, When i was in the age group for barbie i wouldn't even understand that message at all with barbie being too skinny they won't care about barbie's body being unrealistic nor understand numbers on that thing to even know if they are too skinny or too fat The only thing i'd would say controversial would be something kids would actually understand is that book saying "don't eat"

When I was younger my mom did not allow me to own Addy because of how I am a white girl and Addy was a black slave. I don’t remember how but at some point my mother read her first book and because she escaped then I was allowed to own her.

The Midge doll controversy is brain dead. I’m sorry but then every baby doll is promoting teen pregnancy. We had her as kids with my sister and none of us ended pregnant or made anyone else pregnant 😄 and btw there were no problems with her in my country, but maybe that’s bc we are the most atheistic country in Europe 😅

I really enjoyed this video! On another note, and pardon me if this is really nosy, but are you dyslexic? I noticed how you often stumble over your words when reading from for example an article. It’s okay if you are, obviously, just something I noticed lol. I’m neurodivergent too so no judgement! Love your channel :D

I like all dolls but who writes these “stories”? Not a fan of Evette’s story. I think it is more political with many leading avenues. Next they will be changing genders in these “stories”.
