A quick chat with Kev, I was on my way to 7/11 for a coffee, and saw Kev, he had built his home, consisting of a little bean bag with two pillows, some pencils, markers, one blanket, a milk crate, some cardboard, a trolley and a bed fit for a King on Melbourne's finest, a concrete footpath. Kev had an altercation with his partner, which he doesn't want to talk about in this interview, he has a child and gave his family everything only to be left miserable, alone, homeless and depressed. For over a decade now Kev's been homeless. He also talks of being attacked by police and being intimidated by them, he goes onto say they will knock him if he tries to take them to court, I think Kev's mental health is in a poor condition and needs attention, whether or not that story is true. I've been thinking since I had this content, even though short, it would make a great example of the people who exist in our society, and how mental health doesn't discriminate. This is a great example of how it doesn't care if you're rich or poor, a police officer, work for a business firm, or a janitor there, if you're tall or short, what nationality you are, nor does it care about your skin colour & sure doesn't care what your religion is. It doesn't give a care in the world. We're only human beings. This is a reminder that the homeless have been assaulted by people who come from social and economic differences as them, people who have a home, a family to go home to. They look like they're apart of the social norm and well adjusted individuals, what you would call, people whom live with a high morale and could do no harm, productive, law obiding individuals in society. The thing is though, mostly you wouldn't be able to see mental health conditions as easily as you would, when you say, see someone with a disability, missing an arm or a leg for instance. Mental health doesn't care about your social and economic factors, people have been charged with assaulting people who have been sleeping rough on the footpath homeless and or are unable to defend themselves or have a disability for no reason at all, and it's been proven, in court numerous times. That's when you understand we live with individuals that need support and they need help, they need the right support they require to become productive, healthy individuals that are not violent, sadistic or antisocial people, that they kick a person in the head while they're sleeping. The homeless have known to attack others that are homeless also, it happens. The reality of the matter is we're all human, and we all could be going through something in our lives that no one knows about or is aware of, whether it be a family member or a friend, so remember, mental health doesn't discriminate.
This is mental health awareness.
