For anyone struggle some quick ideas: Construction site offcuts, ask politely, you maybe able to get some free "tyvek"- ultralight hikers/campers use it because it's lightweight, very strong and is used in building for it's insulation and water resistant properties. It's a useful replacement for tarps, tent footprints etc. If you can, throw it in a washing machine with some tennis balls to reduce the noise, it is a bit crinkly. Removalist style "mattress protector" bag, the plastic is thick and useful for making gear with. Ask around for donations of ducttape. Many charities etc may give you first aid style emergency blankets, the foil like kind.... or you can wash salvaged chip packets (to remove the food scent so rodents and feral cats etc are not drawn to the food smells). Create an insulating mat with a cheap or salvaged camping foam sleep pad, next add the emergency blanket or chip packets ducttaped together, next add tyvek. Top with whatever sheet/ bedding you have. If possible add bug netting or make something out of close weave lacey curtains from a thrift store. For warmth, keep a tarp or tyvek etc low , for hotter weather, use it higher for shade and air flow. If your shelter is wet inside, it maybe due to condensation from sweat or the air you breath out. A beenie can help cover your eyes from lights, and is easy to lift up.

Shower curtains from walmart are 1 dollar. Also, painters drop cloth plastic are large and cheap. And one roll of pallet wrap can build you a whole condo in the woods if your smart.

I was homeless - first, I never camped out in the cities, cities are death (unless, you have to stay close to your crack supply; I'm not a crackhead). Next, I have self-pride: I made poor choices in staying in a relationship too long; that doesn't mean I have to be filthy. Soap is cheap! And you can get supplies and hygiene materials for free from homeless centers. Also, they come to the libraries everyday - stinks so bad and I would never bring a child there. You can't stand to stay there very long. If you can spend time taking up space on the computers, then you could at least look up self-composting toilets. I made one out of a repurposed bucket, and some pet litter. Didn't stink, deposited my poo in an appropriate receptacle. And, Take an f^cking bath!!! Gym memberships are cheap, and I had a beach pass - so I could be there during the day legally and take advantage of the utilities. Most homeless centers offer access to toilets and showers everyday. My clothes were clean, I never panhandled (I got a restaurant job very close to my campsite so I could eat for free at least once a day), and frankly, you wouldn't even know I was homeless. I had Mental Health challenges, and a little bit of a drinking problem (until I got into a homeless shelter for the winter. You can't consume substances in a homeless shelter). So, b.s. on all the bleeding hearts, " The government should do something". NO! People should be responsible for themselves. Welcome to my TED talk, and thank you for reading.

The hardest thing is worrying others will steal your stuff. I rember my mom telling me when she was a a child she was homeless for a while back in the 40's . Her mom had run off and her dad died in the coal mines . Her brother was taking care of her best he could but they lived in the woods . That had to be hard . People were different back then , it seems today there are a lot more people with bad intentions . I've been homeless a time or 2 , but its like its just waiting for me . I'm 58 now it will be tougher . The physical part is tough but I suffer from depression and the mental is just as hard . In the future I believe there will be more people homeless than with homes . It was like that in the past , maybe we have come full circle . Best wishes to you . Stay safe keep warm , and know you are not alone .

I had everything I owned of value stolen from me multiple times while homeless, it sucks, and if you are already struggling with depression it's even worse. It really teaches you not to value possessions though, which I think is good.

you don;t need money mate, you need someone to teach you a way of living that don't make you a slave to society and its slave wages for survival. i recommend using youtube too : 1)learn to build a small log cabin ( one only needs ten by ten building to live comfortable), a big one is too hard to heat and keep warm on winter nights! 2) learn how to make a stone fire place it will definitely keep you warm at night but make sure you have enough firewood. 3)learn how to plant a garden and forage food plus storage. head for the woods...i wouldn't recommend belgrad forest as you know its patrolled and too close to istanbul...! i recommend either Yenice forest or the dacta Bozburun peninsula . there you will have the freedom you require to build a dedicated home and secure it away from prying eyes who would use your isolation to make you a target. good luck mate and may your travels be safe and stimulating! from an equally homeless person in an equally hostile country

I was homeless as a child and have never been able to take having a home for granted, rents in L.A. have more than doubled in the time we’ve live in our rent control apartment, if anything happened? so this is a regular thought exercise for me with the added complications that come with being female. I’m always thinking about what minimal gear and technology would best serve me or anyone else. I appreciate videos like this. I’ve also watched a lot of backpacking and van build videos.

What are the complications of being female? Men are raped just as often as women, more men are murdered or assaulted than women. Men are 3xpected to defend themselves, whereas people come to women's defence.

Great video! I just remembered about the microtowels - there are certain antiseptic solutions that you can use to soak the microtowel or a clean cloth into. After the cloth or microtowel dries off it retains the antiseptic qualities from the solution. So it can be used as a bandage, and even as a water filter if you need to filter water from a river to drink. But i recommend boiling the water instead haha Best of luck to you and on your travels! :)

Oooh! It might work but then again i dont really know for sure; what if you get one of those special bikes where it has a basket on the front and two wheels by the horizontal towards the back and hook a harness to the back if it. Then get some sort of small-ish shed and attach lockable wheels to the bottom and attach another harness to the front of that and connect it. There u can always move and still have a safe place to be at💓💓not sure how well that would work though

Stay away from the bad crowd, drugs and alcohol and you should be okay. Ways to avoid depression is staying clean, reading, weight lifting at a recreation center or YMCA. You can shower there too. If you have income coming in and a good data plan you can get a Netflix, Hulu, Amazon videos subscription to watch movies before bed. You can use gift cards if you don't have a bank account. You can use peacock or Tubi if you don't want to spend money. Invest in a power bank to keep your phone going. If you have a safe place to set up a tent, make sure you put a tarp over it. Low end tents are water resistant not water proof. For winter a one man tent will be a bit warmer. You'll need a yoga mat or sleeping pad under you to keep you warm. If you don't use one the ground will suck up your body heat, you'll have a hard time staying warm. Don't leave anything valuable, essentials or documents at your camp even if it's a safe place. Eventually (and it will happen) someone will find your camp and will take all your stuff. Use sandals if your using a public shower, there's all kinds of fungus on the floor that will mess up your feet. If the place has lockers, get yourself a small lock and lock it up. You don't want your stuff getting stolen while showering. Get yourself some cord or shoe lace and make a necklace with your key on it. You can wear it on your neck while showering. You can also wear briefs while showering and put the key in the front pocket thingy. You can also tuck your soap and sponge in your briefs while showering so you can keep it off the ground. Avoid confrontations, be respectful towards other homeless people. You won't be able to sleep well if you have beef with someone and you don't know if they will come looking for you in the middle of the night while your sleeping. Having problems with another homeless person is a fast way of getting all your stuff stolen as well. Carry a trash bag in your backpack, it will come in handy when it rains. You can put your backpack in it so it doesn't get wet.

@@JSUrbanAdventures I spent my teenage years in prison from 14 to 20 and in the last 11 years have never made enough to live on my own. And I don't want to live with People I know my whole life. Besides let's be honest for the majority of human history living in a tent was the norm. I'm not trying to say it's going to be easy. I know it's not. And yeah I noticed you can get a great set up on Amazon for cheap and am probably going to use my last little check from McDonald's to do that. Fishing line and such so I can set fish traps im going to try and go full nomad. And do odd jobs so I can afford things like instant potatoes and such stuff that's light weight and easy to store might do a river camp kinda thing. I'm lucky I live in Texas and lost of places to do that with mild weather. Thinking long term might make my way to Florida. Be a wild Florida man. I also grew up really poor and at times my family lived in tents so i know how it is. I'm mentally not made for the society we have built/engineered and I'm okay with this and I love life to much to delete myself. One thing i learned in prison is that like a caveman I really thrive in survival situations. I feel more accomplished when I do something. If it's not life and death then I get lazy and complacent like a primal human would in times of abundance. Have read studies that say that's a genetic throw back and based on my life experiences I would say I fall in to that category. Again I'm not mad and i don't blame society. I really think for me it will be better mentally sounds crazy I know but hey I'm a little crazy. And I won't and don't view myself as homeless. I view myself as a nomad/native. Meaning I'm choosing a primal existence of finding food and shelter. As I can't make it in this rat race of modern society and i have skills from welding to masonry really anything to do with construction I can do including percision machining. Have literally helped make parts on the ISS when at a machine shop I worked at once. I'm not dumb I'm just not made for the society we have. So I'm going to slip threw the cracks and hopefully find a better way. I know to most is the opposite they love the easier life of modern society and the lack of the edge of chaos but I have learned for me you take away that edge of chaos and I'm lost. I find no purpose in life other than survival and for me that's a simple food and shelter equation that society in its modern state has an inflated view of what that is in my opinion. Again not everyone is like me and I get that but for me I think I'm making the right choice.

A stainless steel knife would be smart, but I also just need to take better care of my things, I was stupid for not cleaning it. Thank you for the comment and I hope u come back to watch more videos!

Also, rust can't rust. So if you leave the rust on the knife, and get some oil of any kind, not a lot, and rub it down so it mixes with the rust, and mash it all over. Then stick it in the fire on both sides. The oil will poof but not a lot, it's ok. But it tempers the steel and it won't rust for a good few months until you do it again. Learned it from an old dude.

I like your video bro. I was homeless I know how hard it can be. I truly believe the more you invest in your gear and maintaining them and efficiently packing it and making it accessible the better you will be mentally and spiritually because being homeless is close to hopeless but if you can figure your way around it you can master living off the grid rent free and no bills. I truly hope you consider working full time and urban camping like you have learned. That’s what I’ll be doing in about a year bro. Much peace and blessings to you.

What kind of homeless person is he? NOTHING like the ones I talk to. Where does Amazon "deliver" these things to him? Does he have an address? Most homeless I know don't even have ID so they can't get an address. Why are his nails clean? This is bogus.

You must not know many homeless people. You realize there are services for homeless people to get free IDs, and free phones? You realize public libraries have internet access? You realize there are things called Amazon lockers at gas stations? You realize it's very easy to get a prepaid debit card? Do you realize that 70% of homeless men are employed? Homeless doesn't mean stupid. And my nails are clean because I washed my hands and took showers(shelters, YMCA's, and planet fitness for 10$ a month all have showers). Theres a reason I'm not homeless anymore, not all homeless people are hopeless and mentally ill and its insulting to them that you think that. I know homeless people who make 100$ a day panhandling, you dont think they know how to recieve packages? Dont ASSume, it makes you look ignorant.

@@JSUrbanAdventures I know quite a few homeless. And it is harder to get an ID than you think. At least in our city, only the shelters will give set you up with a post box in order to get an ID, and NONE of the homeless I work with and help on a volunteer basis will go back to a shelter.

It was all like 1 Wendy's paycheck lol I didn't want to be in the shelter to avoid drugs, but I had nowhere else to go so invested in gear lol

Two years ago, I got drug induced hepatitis (prescribed drug) and I've since lost my job, girlfriend, car and now, I'm about to lose my house. I'm considering traveling homeless. I always wanted to travel but didn't got the time and often didn't have the money. It is something worthy of considering. Going back to my parents at 40 or starting a new path? Thanks for your upload and godspeed!

Thanks for your comment and all your honesty, I wish you luck, being homeless is hard and has lots if ups and downs, I'd trade it for a wife and child in a second, but since I'm alone I might as well be free and make memories and do things that make me happy like travel and camp etc.i hope if you choosE to take this path it goes amazing for you!
