and a lot of people don't realize until it hits them or someone close to them. I saw it happen to a friend who was a conservative. He did save a LOT of money because he worked very hard and did not foolishly spend money throughout high school, college and even in his 20s/30s. But then in his 40s he got sick, lost his job/health coverage. And he never recovered. He used to be like a lot of people who think homeless individuals are lazy, just want free government handouts and sit around and get wasted. I think that the vast majority of homeless people just want to work and be able to pay bills (including a place to stay, transportation and health coverage). But what do you do when you have a disability where you don't qualify for getting enough assistance (either from former employer or government), that is where a lot of people are stuck in this gap.

I cannot believe that no one in her family will help her. But then, when I needed a place in 2009, no one in my family helped either. I know your pain, and I pray for your success and well being for you and your kids. Good luck.
@SweetTeaElle6 жыл бұрын
musicmamma My dad and mom give me $20 a week that I put on three bills now -- car insurance, cell phone/internet service and gasoline for my car. Their house has three bedrooms. Two are unused. When I needed to get divorced, my dad would not let me stay there. When I needed money for the divorce, they did not help. So, I had to beg my ex into filing for divorce. He came a into money from a wrongful death suit against a hospital. So he got the lawyer and paid for the divorce. The lawyer would not do contested divorces; we had to agree on everything. So I got no alimony, no child support for the final months till our younger turned 18. (The kids have had to support themselves.) We co-own a duplex. We collect rent from the other side of the duplex and it pays our mortgage. Currently, we four are living in about 1,300 square feet. My ex has a bedroom. My son and my daughter have bedrooms. I sleep on a sofa, as I have for eight years now. My ex used to be self employed. He no longer has his trucks and equipment. He explored transgender issues for quite a few years, but has been dressing as himself now again for about two months. He cannot get hired, locally or in other areas of the state. He is 53 and in the process of trying to get disability. Most of his disability has to do with his eyesight, from previous brain surgeries decades ago. I spent from age 26 to the present raising my kids and taking care of my homes and yards. One child has bipolar disorder and the other had an autism spectrum disorder. The bipolar one now works full time at a fast food place and is going to college in Late August -- in a big town 75 minutes away. The one that has an ASD needs a lot of help with basic life skills and job training. He will be 22 in August. He lives with us. He would not be able to manage living by himself in an apartment. He has used up almost all the money his dad, my ex, won for him in another lawsuit regarding a hand accident when my son was almost 11. Me? I am a college graduate -- twice. I currently volunteer at Hosparus, as a respite care giver and at the thrift shop. I take online courses to improve my current job skills and those soft skills employers are looking for. I could probably get hired, as I still have some youthfulness in me. However, my body is fighting me. I am still about 30 pounds overweight. (I have lost 9 pounds since late November.) I have osteoarthritis all along my spinal cord, hips and buttocks. Even when I work at the thrift shop, the pain returns after only a couple hours standing and moving just a bit in the store. I am 48 1/2, so there will be no claiming disability until I am at least 50. Even then, I'll need lots of medical evidence and a darn good lawyer. Meanwhile, the bills come monthly and they are barely getting paid. We have had to ask the local ministerial association and community action this month. We may have to forgo the home internet services. Our car insurance company is terminating us mid July. The rates we had been paying were reasonable. I used this year's income tax return to pay three months of insurance on my own car. Then they mailed us a letter saying we had been terminated. It was NOT for failure to pay premiums. So now we are trying to find other car insurance. The rates we are being quoted are outrageous!! Medicaid just switched us to KY Health. We now have to pay a monthly premium of $8. That is for me, my son and my daughter. My ex has a separate plan/MCO. We are also in danger of losing SNAP money for groceries because we cannot meet the 20 hours per week of work requirements. Local food pantries only serve once every other month. We are coming into some perilous times. I'm scared. My parents still won't let me live there. The house is hoarded up. There is no room to hardly walk downstairs and the bedroom upstairs is hoarded with stuff too. I am an only child. My cousins live in larger cities. One invited me to live with her and her partner, another female. This is the same big town that my daughter will be going to school in. My ex's parents have been gone over four years now. His younger brother is well taken care of by a childhood buddy and his wife. Their older brother is barely making it working 10 hours a day in a town 45 minutes from his home. Things are tightening up. When will Jesus come?

Mark Horvath is the founder of this channel and (if I may speak on his behalf) he considers this project his life's mission. I have been watching for awhile and I have seen the documentary on Marks rocky past where he was addicted and homeless and how he was helped and then found religion and even began to pastor, but he was called to share these stories. I know for me it has been life altering. I am obsessed with finding housing solutions and I am about to retire and travel west to Las Vegas to see if I can put together a non-profit around rescue shelters (Conestoga huts) that are the brain child of Community Sponsored Shelters in Oregon. If not for Mark I would not be on this path toward trying to make the world better. One save at a time...

Not involved in your politics and wouldn't assume that homelessness is caused due to a certain president or two. It's just strange from my perspective how the nation that claims it is number 1, has the biggest economy, keeps invading other countries - also give no shit about their people. If it's *this* easy to get homeless, then there is something seriously wrong and corrupt. I would assume this could happen in countries like Romania, Sudan or Argentina - but the US and Canada? The "developed country" status should be taken off you immediately.

I’m praying this courageous young woman finds some peace and safety for herself and family. Shame on her sister who has no heart! She is undeserving of such a beautiful sister!

I am really sorry you had such misfortune in life. Want you to know you are an incredible human being. I know your sons will grow up to be decent people because you educate them well. I wish we were able to contact you in order to help you out.

I couldn't have thrown my sister out. Wow. No words for the "father" of those children. I'm not surprised.

I thank you, Invisible People, for doing this valuable service. I, like many, have been "burned" by homeless people before, given them food... have them just ask for money, seen many homeless "scammers" in my area drive off in fancy cars. Laura is the real deal that scammers ruin it for. Laura is inspirational, she has so much courage. I hope she and her family are doing well these days. I do wish you would have asked her to sing maybe for a couple of minutes and I didn't find her facebook link in the description for Sustra, her band.

women give children away to adoption all the time w/o fathers consent. he can do the same like a paper abortion, thats his choice.

No, a father can't choose to not take care of his TWO kids all a sudden hence child support. He obviously wanted them because he didn't stop after the first child nor did he leave his wife after the first.
