The shoes on my Super XLAO were worn but not too bad. most of the wear is on the leading edge of the shoe. They seem to be symmetrical so I flipped them over when I put the clutch back together. The trailing edge is now the leading edge and vice versa. I should get some more wear out of them.

Great stuff Leon. I've made some cobbled-together clutch removal tools that are just barely effective. Maybe I'll take some time to see if I can make some better ones.

Thanks, that was helpful! Had to swap a clutch on the Super2 off of a parts saw. I'll leave the spider on the crankshaft and that will save me time. Custom Chainsaw Parts in Marysville WA, eh? That's an hour drive for me. I might have to visit them if I need those tools.

I recently rediscovered my boxed up and abandoned for 10 years when my divorce and custody battle began) Homelite 150 Automatic. In the next couple of weeks I plan to finish reassembling it, after I inspect it thoroughly for corrosion. Mine uses an S type clutch and I plan to replace the pitted original bar with an 18" and new chain. I've seen other 150s using a spider type clutch, so I'm curious if you have any opinion/experience on which clutch style between the two is the better for long term reliability and resistance to failure. Great video!

Is there a way of telling whether the springs need replacing or just replace them when replacing the shoes? Thx
