Back in 1979 I ran glass packs exhaust on my 327 / 57 Belair. My neighbor's told me when I cold started my car in the morning it shook their home windows

That is so creative. I have a FMF power core silencer that I have been trying to save but it's pretty beat and I want to keep the inlet and the end cap from the pipe and I'm going to steal your idea and create one myself thank you for this!

I've used similar ceramic wool when personally fabbing my own mufflers. I believe it was 'FibreFrax' or something like that. Works well and usually won't blow the packing out unless it's a higher h.p. application. Stainless steel rock wool works well in conjunction with the ceramic blanketing. You wrap the perforated core with the stainless, then the blanketing on the outside which makes the wadding more resistant to blow-out. Nice looking can though. I would call it more of a 'resonator' than a glasspack though. The inside of something like a cherry bomb is definitely different.👍👍
@GPGarage12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, that combination is certainly a better option, but in my case this is good. It’s definitely a resonator, not a glasspack muffler.

Nice build! What kind of tape did you use to wrap the ceramic wool? Thanks in advance.
@GPGarage12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I use paper masking tape, but wire or something else can also be used, because it only serves to make it easier to insert the packing material into the muffler.

Why not make a solid core?
@GPGarage12 жыл бұрын
I also worked with a solid core and I didn't notice any difference, and this way it's easier for me. When I work like this, I always cut a perforated tube 2-3mm shorter than the muffler case, to have a little tolerance for packaging

@@GPGarage1 I drilled several 3/8 holes in the core. Lost count of the holes. Lol.

Sometimes these videos leave me feeling very dissatisfied. This one did. Why not supply a drawing as well, an explanation regarding the sort of engine it's designed for, and how these design parameters were decided on. Designing silencers or mufflers is as much an art as it is a science.
