Fantastic idea of using a quad bike for the essential, hard to perfect areas of the build being the steering, suspension and braking.

Hi everyone, I made this buggy just after finishing year 12. Yes, it has drawbacks by using quad parts but it was lots of fun on a tight budget. I didn't work off any plans so can't provide them, sorry (and things will be different depending on what quad you start with). The song is by a band a couple of my mates had in high school but they never released music officially. Thanks for the support and I hope this video has inspired others to get out there and give it a go. - Nick

thats what i was planning to do when the engine in my quad went ka-put, however i decided to fix my quad.. but i still plan to use a quad chassis to build a kart, just gotta find a chassis.. be great to have the whole front end, a-arms, hubs, brakes etc etc, rear swingarm n all that... I have a 440 articat engine to use, and found another whole articat sled for 200$ for the rest of the drivetrain parts and electronics etc etc gotta get her done soon, springs comming! awesome build there!

Awesome mate! sounds like some great plans! i defiantly recommend using the from suspension from a quad chassis. The only draw back is the turning circle and cos you dont have a rack and pinion set up its heaps hard to turn the wheel. (if you keep the quads steering) But the suspension and breaks work great :)

Hey kosolic93 sounds fun mate! I put the clutch on the gear stick basically just because there wasn't enough room to squeeze in 3 pedals in the space I had for me feet. It also proved easier to mount and easy to use:) I think the engine was powerful enough, however i found out it was never tuned right so was lacking power! A 2 stroke engine might be more suited though. And I sold it cos I didn't take it out enough, I got into 4wding instead. Good luck with your build!

yeh in regards to the back axle and wheels, i used it that way with the locked axle from the quad because it was the cheaper easier option. Its true the back is too narrow (the quad was made with a wide front and narrow back!) ideally i would put in independent rear suspension and make the axle wider but i just didnt want to spend to much money on the shocks and universal joints for the axle. i smoother ride would be very welcome though. great idea about reversing the wheels. ill give it a go

I have the same quad i plan on pulling the motor off and just mounting it next to me on a go cart frame i have already, mounting the clutch handle on the steering wheel and just shifting with my right hand

no problem. just be aware its difficult to get the tension on both the chains right and stay right as there is heaps of tension when accelerating. The large gear has 36 teeth and is from the quad. The smaller one has about 32 i think. I got it from a friend who works with metal and motorbikes so im not sure what it is exactly. He just machined it down to suit what i needed. Hope this helps

Hey bro this is the best buggy i have ever seen for a tight budget.Can you please give me plans for it if you can I want to do one like yours but using parts from a standard 125 cc bike (i doubt if its possible)

hey liked the video, is that the rear end from the bike aswell like the axel and such, and whats the top speed on it?? and any dimensions??

Hey man! Great work! I am thinking about doing the similar thing now... However, why didnt you put clutch to be on pedals? And was the engine powerful enough (in your opinion)? And also, how long did it take to make it? Btw, why did u sell it? :) Thanks a lot!

@Nick Storm Please answer, i could do the same with a frame ive built but to me the quad Axel looks too narrow and would make the vehicle unstable and tip... have you ever encountered problems as such? sorry if miss spelt many thanks.

What do you mean exactly ratios? I've sold the buggy so I can't measure anything but feel free to ask specific questions and ill do my best
@LynxGenisys12 жыл бұрын
one other thing, your rear axle/wheel base seems a bit narrow.. if it was mine, id see about getting a wider axle, or, on alot of machines, you can flip the rear wheels (put the valve stems on the inside) and gain usualy around 2"s.. be sure to check that your valve stem wont hit anythigna and get ripped out.. same thing as the fronts, although you usualy need flush valve stems installed, but your front looks to be a good wheel base.. lol.. the rear just looks narrow or someting..
@nickmartin123111 жыл бұрын
The buggy is about 2.4m long can't remember how wide.. 1,2 I'd guess. I wanted to do independent rear suspension but it was just too expensive . Yes it's the rear end of the quad too, not sure about top speed, I never got it tuned well before I slots it. I'd guess about 50kph as I reduced the ratios

@nickmartin123110 жыл бұрын
Hey, sorry for not replying, I haven't checked this in awhile. I'll try answer a few questions. The quad axles were a little bit narrow but it didn't end up feeling unstable, I mostly used it on flat trails. And yes I've sold the buggy now so can't make anymore videos. However the front steering was straight from the quad. Basically I cut the shaft where the quad handlebars attached and welded on a part from a car steering shalf so I could change the angle, then put a steering wheel on. I sold the buggy cos I didn't use it enough and I got into modifying my 4wd. I think the engine was powerful enough but I never really had it tuned right when in the buggy. The quad had heaps of power. And I didn't put the clutch down as a foot pedal because on my design there really wasn't enough room to fit 3 pedals in the foot area, so I had to come up with a different solution. Hand clutch worked fine though. I hope this helps some of you out.

Im interested in selling this buggy as i just dont have space and time to use it. I cant get the engine started right now, there is a problem with the electrics, i believe one part needs replacing as its making a shorting out noise and stopping the engine from trying to turn over. Also the chain set up at the back needs a little fine tuning. Perfect buy for someone who in keen to put a bit of time into this and end up with a very fun buggy. Comment if you're interested. $650 ono

i would agree about it being slow, but if it were a clutch, and a 2 stroke, it would haul some ass. About buying one, you can make one as nice, if not better for the price. Onto the design, the body is nice, but it needs a pedal clutch, an e-brake, and pedal gas and front braking system. That would make it the shit.

First thing is STOP asking if the rear is too narrow on ATV's and such the FRONT end is what handles the cornering NOT the rear it could have just ONE (1) wheel (as in a reverse 3-wheeler 2 in the front one in the back) and would still be just as stable, In fact if the rear was way wider then the front it would handle more like a regular 3-wheeler ( one wheel in front two in the rear) witch we all know can't handle for shit in corners ( I use to have Honda 250R 3-wheeler so i know how they handle) And if it was mine i would have left it as a quad, that go-kart has got to be much heaver then the quad was.. Just my opinion...

Is it not a quad just extended.. The suspension running gear wiring is all done.. Just has be extended.. Not really a build in my eyes.. As in having to design steering chassis rear axel etc etc.. Looks great and well done, I don't mean to be another video basher but is what I said not what was done?
