Homemade log splitter with Log Lifter and adjustable 4 way blade. More detailed video for DYIers.
All - I have had hundreds of requests for plans... unfortunately I don't have any. I designed this splitter on paper which was discarded long ago. I would be happy to share the dimensions and collaborate with someone with professional CAD experience if they would in turn be willing to share the drawings with others at little or no expense. - Mark

The 5" cylinder was surplus courtesy of my father-in-law. Thanks Henry! I believe it came off a concrete pump. It was in good shape so I just replace the seals. The wedge is just a length of 6"x3/4" cold rolled steel, I put the edge on it with a milling machine. It seems to be holding up well. The paint is Dupont Imron over a good acid etching primer. Very tough paint but expensive and nasty (toxic) so you need a good respirator to work with it. It was a left over from another project.

Mark,...Thanks for the reply. That has to be the best log splitter I have ever seen. I really like the adjustable 4 way blade. I have always split my wood by hand but I am about to turn 60 and the back just can't handle doing the manual splitting anymore.

Wow, very impressive Mark!!! I understand the "love" of playing with the designs and then building the machines, more so going "into production" after the original and it becoming work, but I sure wish I could get a hold of plans for that baby!! You could actually turn a little profit with plans and a materials list, and I would certainly be willing to pay for them!!! IMHO, I believe you have one of the best set ups I have ever come across!! Thanks for sharing!! Ray

Thank you for your kind comments Mike... I still have the machine but I'm not really interested in selling or building another. I do these things for the fun of designing and building them but after the first copy it just become work. I've just starting building an airplane and expect that will consume my time for the next year or two anyway. Have you thought about building your own... it's fun and rewarding.

Fantastic! I think it's surely the best home made log splitter on KZbin.

I have to comment again. This time on your video production quality. You actually used a tripod! Your dialog seems off-the-cuff but it's very understandable and even useful to other builders. You give a lot of tips. Just great Mark!! Thanks so much for not making the typical shaky camera, out of focus, mumbled dialog video that there is too much of on KZbin.

Really nice log splitter. You are very clear thinking and talented. I want to build things like this but growing up in the '60s just burnt my brain so badly that designing and executing complex designs like you have is now impossible! Thanks for making this video.

Mark that is one incredible log splitter. Do you have any plans for your design. I know I would be interested in purchasing the plans. Fantastic job!!

Nothing that Grandiose, I simply laid the design out to scale on graph paper. I generated the table and blade lift geometry with a hand calc. It came out pretty much as expected though I did end up having to move one of the cylinder mounts for the table lift half an inch for clearance at full lift. CAD would have helped there. Thank you for your kind comments. - Mark

The blade is just 3/4" cold rolled steel bar... it can be easily replaced by pulling one pin. I'll make a six-way blade as soon as I get a bit of free time. - Mark

Sorry Dave... this was just another fun project for me. I never thought to save the drawings.
