Thanks for the video. For our spray cleaner we typically do a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water, 12-20 drops of essential oils, a teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol and a drop or two of liquid soap. The essential oil is pretty effective at masking the vinegar smell. For scrubbing surfaces, basins, tubs and toilets we use baking soda. For laundry we've started using one of those laundry balls. I'm not sure if the laundry balls do anything but the clothes seem to come out clean.

Thanks Aaron, I'll give your recipe a try. I also use baking soda for scrubbing and have been looking into homemade laundry detergent recipes.

Not bad~! though you didnt specify the amount of the 50/50 mixture of white vin and h2o. nevertheless, i tried your recipe without the essential oil, but i think the isopropyl smell takes care of the vinegar's citrousy smell.

Ever heard of bar soap? You rub it on a damp sponge and smear it around. Only prep is unwrapping it. Cheap and highly effective!

Definitely will give this a try. I only have peppermint EO, but it repels spiders, so that works for me. If it could also repel fleas, ticks and bed bugs, all the better.

Let me know your favorite recipes in the comments and your experience with trying this vinegar based cleaner. I haven’t experienced any issues using it on granite but it’s a good idea to test it on any surface to make sure. Granite and marble particularly.

How long does this liquid stay safe to use? I think I added too much vinegar.. My husband hates the smell of vinegar so I added a lot of lavender oil to it... Please let me know if that's OK. And also if its OK to use it on baby's High chair tray. Can I just put food on his tray once I clean with this disinfectant?
@EricSeider
@EricSeider 3 жыл бұрын
Hard to say how long it will last, both water and vinegar can last a long while, depends probably on the other ingredients. You will always get a vinegar smell but I find it goes away after a few minutes. If you are really sensitive you might need a different solution. The only issue with the lavender oil is if it mixes with the vinegar solution. You need the polysorbate 20 or it will stay separate and when you spray it you’ll get an uneven mix of oil and vinegar solution. As far as vinegar as a disinfectant, technically it is not considered a disinfectant with respect to bacteria and viruses but only really harsh chemicals are considered officially “ disinfectant “ like bleach. At least in the United States.

nSt softic that’s a great idea for a video.👍🏼 I find it works about as well as any of the major commercial cleaners, I prefer to use less vinegar and a bit more elbow grease but you can certainly go up to 50% vinegar to help with more of the dirt etc.., you can add a few drops of dish soap to help with tougher stains.

@EricSeider
@EricSeider 3 жыл бұрын
I use it in my kitchen all the time. I’m not sure about it’s shelf life , it won’t last as long as full strength vinegar but if used regularly it will stay good until your bottle runs out.

Can you provide a link for the emulsifier?
@EricSeider
@EricSeider 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t have a specific link, the one I use is from years ago I purchased in Australia at a health shop. You should be able to find online or if you have a local shop selling essential oils.

This is supposed to be 'Homemade'. How many people have Polysorbate 80 in their pantry?
@EricSeider
@EricSeider 2 жыл бұрын
Probably not many but it’s the most commonly used emulsifier and something worth having if you want to mix essential oils into water based cleaners etc.. you can find it online fairly easily and it lasts a long time. I’ve had the same small bottle for 15yrs. Thanks for watching. 🙏

‘All purpose’, but won’t dissolve grease and oil, and etches marble and granite...
@EricSeider
@EricSeider 4 жыл бұрын
By all purpose I meant glass, bathroom, kitchen. I’ve never had an issue on granite and don’t own any marble. It works fine for me for the small amount of oil splatter on the stove but it’s certainly not a degreaser. It’s a good point you bring up to test it on any surface before using just in case, which I will add to the description. Thanks for watching, Cheers.

Eric Seider The vinegar in my experimental bottle of oil and vinegar salad dressing refuses to emulsify any oil, despite occasional vigorous shaking. It’s been behaving that way for as long as I can remember...
@EricSeider
@EricSeider 4 жыл бұрын
Frank Gutowski you would need an emulsifier to keep the oil and vinegar combined. For the cleaner I use polysorbate 20 to keep the few drops of essential oils combined. It still requires shaking before using. I wouldn’t recommend using it for your salad dressing though. 😁

Eric Seider Well then, you have a surfactant in there which is the primary cleaning agent.

Frank Gutowski fair enough though it’s a pretty small percentage of the total volume, something like 4-8 drops to a liter.
