Can you give more details on the template for cutting the V? Does the template have a curved edge or is it straight?

No criticism here man, because as a guy who builds boats for a living I understand how tricky at times building something can be lol. But those 1x2" channels are gonna be stiff as all shit, and by cutting them to "cope" them to the hull shape, every spot you cut introduces a huge chance for cracks in the future. A better choice would've been 2-3" x ⅜-½" flat bar. Strong enough to hold shape when welded, and flexible enough to work with before, and won't make the boat so rigid that by default every weld is taking the abuse of every movement. Building something stiff and overbuilt has its place, but there's a balance, some give is good, it'll save your overall structure.

How long have you been building boats ? I got some questions
@3Beehivesto300 Жыл бұрын
Do you have to use any drawings or requirements from the cast guard in order to get you boat resisters? Foam in hull for example.
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms Жыл бұрын
Not in Alabama. Not sure about other states. I think you have to show receipts of aluminum purchase in Louisiana for the officer to assign a hull Id.

Was the channel for your transom 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms27 күн бұрын
@@AveryGrant-g3z it was 1/2 inch but that’s just. Cause that’s what they had at the scrap yard. I bought a piece of 1/4 to use but I opted for the thicker. It’s overkill, I think 1/4 is plenty.

Hello Jack! I love your boat design and am planning to build something exactly the same. one request, would you mind sharing your boat design as in where the bends need to go. I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much. Ali

Excellent videos Jack! Thank you. One question; what gauge MIG wire and alloy type are you using for 5056 aluminum?

Thanks. 5356 .030 for most of it. 100% argon of course.

Nice! I am going to try to copy this as closely as I can! do you think its cheaper to do it this way or just buy a boat? I wouldn't think the materials would be to awful. Is it a lot cheaper to make your own boat?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms2 жыл бұрын
cheaper to build if you are looking for quality and something to last... if you just want cheap, look to the manufacturers like allweld or go pick up a tracker from bass pro.

i'm sure the prices have changed a good bit in the last year as everything has... i also had some on hand and sourced a little from a local scrap yard, but just know as compared to a quality manufacturer, you will have about a quarter to a third of the price as opposed to buying new.
@williammanuel23252 жыл бұрын
did you make your own gunnels?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms2 жыл бұрын
No I bought them from the same place as all my other metal. I have seen plenty of people make them out of round pipe though. They just cut a slit in one side and slide it over it.
