how you like the spool gun? ive been debating getting one for at least 4 years. one of these days ill get one. or get a welder to tig alum.
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustomsКүн бұрын
I got it as a way to weld aluminum until I could get a good tig. I still haven’t bought a tig. lol. I like it and it’s certainly sufficient, but I would love to have a push pull mig. Just can’t justify it right now.

Awesome boat. I'm thinking about building one my self. Get the materials from Pierce aluminum I was gonna make a 1648. How long did this haul take ? (Hours) I'm looking to save money and I'd think it would be awesome making my own money, but from the looks of it it looks like a lot of work 🤣 and the money you spent was probably around at least 6-8k? Idk
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms13 күн бұрын
You will have that in the materials for sure. It’s an incredible feeling to build something yourself that rivals the best boat builders out there. You could probably buy a cookie cutter boat off the lot just as cheap but if you take the time, you can have something as nice as a prodigy for about 1/3 of the price. BUT with your name on it. I have another build video coming soon of one I just completed that’s an 1856 and I had around 130 hours in it.

I’ll be building this soon. We are covered up in turtles! Can you give a general cost to build this and I’m curious what the ramp is made of? Can I find that at the hardware store?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms18 күн бұрын
I think it was around 100 dollars but you could build several for just a little more. The mesh will come in a big roll that enough to do several, plenty of glue as well for multiple traps. It would be super cheap if you could just buy enough stuff to do one. I bought the ramp from my local scrap yard, you can find anything at the hardware store that will bend and has texture though. Maybe a piece of expanded metal or even wood that was screwed to some brackets that were bent to the right angle.

Hey Jack, How many sheets of turf did this take? Also did you use hydro turf or did you use something less expensive like Amazon. If it’s the less expensive stuff I curious as to how it has held up in your experience
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms25 күн бұрын
I bought 4 sheets and had a decent bit left over but I wanted to make sure I could keep all the lines going in the same direction and enough to cover cooler. I used the hydroturf. It still looks like day I put it in. Good stuff.

I will have to say that you built a super sweet boat. You have inspired me to build my own. I like the idea of building it the way you want it and have the opportunity to build it the way you want it. It there a certain place you got certain items for the boat, like the outside top railing and the decorative inside bump railing.

Does the firebox really need to be that big? It just seems like it would create an unnecessarily large fire burning through more charcoal than whats actually needed? Yes I know airflow on alot of these is restricted but I dont believe a clean fire is created with a smothered fire.

Amazing video! Did you scuff the base coat before doing the stencil paint work? Separately, I’m not sure how seriously to take the paint label warnings about having a one-hour window to work with (they say “within one hour or after 24 hours” for additional layers of paint). Did you abide by that, or in your experience should that not be taken too literally? Appreciate any guidance ◡̈
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustomsАй бұрын
Thank you. I did not scuff the base. I did stay pretty close to the times on the labels. It doesn’t have to be exact but I would recommend staying close at least… humidity and temperature will affect it a good bit so I imagine those times are safe approximates. I let mine dry for around 24 before starting with the stencils.

I am searching for your email but can't seem to find it. I was wanting to see if I could get your stencil pattern for use with a smaller item. I have a former student who passed away last May in a side-by-side wreck, and he would have graduated this year. I am attempting to create a folding memorial chair in his honor, to be placed where he would have sat. I'm afraid the redleg stencils may be too large. Thank you.

How long ya think you would be comfortable in there with your family- poo- food- sleep- cameras inside to see where intruders might be- a way out besides the door? I’m not trying to be nasty I have nothing yet but I’m thinking about it and so much comes to mind it’s overwhelming it looks like you were almost most of the way and better than most I would assume👍
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms2 ай бұрын
I’m not planning on being in there to hide from intruders. Mainly a place that doubles as keeping my things safe while away from home and a place to get the family in should we have a tornado. So I think you could be comfortable for a few hours, but I never plan on us being in there for more than a few minutes for the storm to pass. The kids have had a few sleep overs in there when we were supposed to have bad weather overnight. Cots fit great.
