Homemade sawmill walk-around. I watched every video I could find before I started building this one. I’m just putting this out there for people to see an example of how a complete novice can build a fully functioning sawmill. I try to describe each of the parts for better understanding.

real nice. I bought a Turner 8 years ago but by building it yourself you will be much more able to maintain your sawmill so you builders are way ahead. you can always trade, sell, build up if you need to. Great job. Keep it up.

Excelent build, I appreciate the more "simple" designs like your's. I've seen so many that just, in my opinion, over design the mills (6 way wheel alignment, step motors and threaded shafts for height adjustment, etc) Great job!

Thank you. I totally agree. When I was researching, I was looking for less complex designs. I made adjustments as I went. I have added some adjustability to my mill. The pulleys have a tendency to toe-in when the blade is tensioned. I was surprised how a tiny flex of the 1” steel drive shaft can result in throwing the blade off the pulleys.

Great build buddy. A lot of work to build that thing. No small task. I built one myself a few years ago and then we moved and I had to sell it but I'd love to build another one again... You've inspired me a little to build another. Thanks 😊

Good looking build! I built my own mill and it works well. I'm wanting to build a new one that is heavier so that it's more rigid , it's definitely a learning experience and I love running it. Congrats!

Awesome video you NAILED the important details! I am almost done, same exact design, drive pulley right behind the band pulley. I used 1.5" shaft and was concerned about the tension bending the shaft with how far our band pulleys "hang out" past the bearings. Should I not be concerned about that now, seeing yours is identical and a smaller shaft? Mine is the SAME just 1.5" shaft and dual block bearings... Do I need a third bearing with the fatter shaft? Will I be bending/breaking? Also, your pillow bearings span larger than mine, my dual pillows are about HALF that amount of gap, yours looks 12" of bearings mine is about 8" Let me know if you want me to text you some video if you need to actually see what i mean lol. Im about to move off grid Adirondacks and this thing NEEDS to work without failure lol

Looks good, but I bet you are spinning that blade a lot faster than needed at 1/2 to 3/4 Throttle

Long bed. Nice. Hahaha scissor jack is a good idea. Ya 14 horse is good. Pine sol is the bomb. Im not sure if youre going to get cracks in the blade with 14" sheaves. We'll see. I know they recommend 18.75 for those. I like the chain drives. Snatch block pulley system. Cool. Must be nice to have oak. 4 post design diminshes diagonal shimmy. You have a plan for a push bar? No pressure. Hahaha. You can put a tab with a bolt that pushes against the pillow blocks for toe adjustment. Ok. Blah blah blah. Nice work!

I wanted 18” sheaves but impossible to find and very expensive. I am working on a push bar with throttle control. I do have a bolt adjustment on the left side to toe in/out the pulley. Plan on adding one on the right side. No problem with cracks, but I’ll watch for them. Thanks for watching.

I tried a thicker blade on my 18.75s. It cracked because of the tighter arc. Every time it goes around the sheave, it gets bend stress. Blah blah blah.😁

How many hp and rpm the motor is?
@rjordanpt
@rjordanpt Жыл бұрын
It’s a 14hp Kohler engine. It’s on a centrifugal clutch so speed is variable. I don’t even know what the range in rpm is. I only need half power most of the time.

What was the total cost of the build
@rjordanpt
@rjordanpt 2 жыл бұрын
I have about $1200 in steel. I was able to use some scrap iron for the rails. I bought the 12 hp engine new for $400. I probably have about $2200 in it. I bought many of the parts new because I didn’t have the time to search for used or scrap parts.
