Thank you very much for the compliments and watching my video!!! I ended up having as much in my mill as buying one. Counting my time and power would make it more justifiable to buy one. The only problem now might be the cost of one now with the inflation and availability. I really enjoyed building mine and seeing it work though. You could put a material list together as much as possible for cost and compare to buying one. Hit me up anytime and I will help all I can. Again, thank you!!

Thanks from Australia. Would have loved to see how you adjust the tracking on your wheels and how you tighten the blade.
@narrowstripsawing95954 жыл бұрын
I straight the wheels across the front of them to get them straight, I also placed shims under the bearings closest to the wheels I believe but will verify and let you know for sure to put camber in the wheels. To tighten the blade I used all thread rod with two nuts and a very strong spring to allow if bark or a piece of wood goes between the wheel and blade. I will make another video of what you are asking about in a day or two and download it for you. Thank you for watching my video!!! Really cool that you are from Australia!!! Stay tuned because I like helping people out!!!
@narrowstripsawing95954 жыл бұрын
I used bolts and coupler nuts at all four corners of the bearings to adjust the bearings and to make sure that they are held in place because the pressure to pull them is alot.

@@narrowstripsawing9595 Thanks Mate, you are a legend. I am busy on my own Sawmill build and want the best methods available, yours looks well designed. You are lucky to have Cooks sawmills in the USA, they are a wealth of info and gear, however shipping and customs/duties to OZ are a bit prohibitive so I am doing a lot of up cycling of second hand gear. I have a lot of ceramic discs from servicing pump mechanical seals, and may try make a blade guide using them. Thanks again

super build. why did you make it the width you chose? just wondering. it looks to be about 24" wide max. I have a 24" wide Timbery M280 mill that is super for my first mill; after less than 5 years I'm ready to begin to plan out a mill that can make that will handle at minimum 36" wide or so. I have had several logs that were way to wide and lost much material butterflying logs or trimming edges. I will refere to your build for ideas when building my own. thanks for posting.

Thanks for watching my video! I appreciate it so much! I can cut a 32 inch log between my guides with the one slid full open. I wished that I would have made it wider but it's very rare that I come across a big log. I could redo both of my guide brackets and gain about six more inches but would also have to widen my track some. Don't know if I ever will because I don't come across many huge logs. By all means hit me up with any questions and I'll be more than glad to help anyway I can. Thanks again for watching my video!

Thank you very much!!! I was thinking of making mine fixed but with all the research I decided to go adjustable and very glad I did. I like the flanged bearings, looks like it would be a smooth non binding way to lift the head. Where do you purchase these? Ive been looking for an hour and a half
@narrowstripsawing95953 жыл бұрын
I got them off a old weight bench. What you can use is idle pulleys or v belt idle pulleys. It does take longer to crank up and down this way though. When I get time, I'm either going to modify a new winch to make it faster or run a shaft across the top with sprockets to raise and lower my mill to make it quicker. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me anytime. Thank you for watching!
