Mate thanks for showing your folder, after watching the video it has solved my problems on how to build one. It's so simple yet very effective, great job.

This is absolutely brilliant!!! I use a box and pan at work every so often. I always thought It would be nice to have one at home for hobbies. But they are way to expensive. This is such a awesome idea!!! I am going to try to build one at some point.

Great job! I like the way you beveled the edge on the upper bit, allowing for a crisper bend. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.

This is fantastic. I googled 'how to fold sheet metal' and this came up as the first result - it's perfect. I do need to fold 1.2mm iron about twice this width, so a double length bender should be perfect (I seriously doubt the angle iron will flex much over 1800-1900mm). Spot on bloke, cheers for sharing!

Easily the best DIY brake I've seen. Doesn't look to be very adjustable, but I'm assuming it was built to bend the same stuff over and over.

I just did a scrap metal clean up job and there was one of these but a little different style in the pile but I saved it, figured I might need it some day since I have plans for a hood on my generator..

Thanks, this is a cool little system you have here, actually have to bend some metal and was thinking of how to do it. You just made it real simple for me, going to build me something close to this..

Hi Hobo. In the absence of an adjuster for different thicknesses you could lengthen the holes in the top angle that it is bolted down with to allow the top jaw to move away from the fold and then put different thicknesses of aluminium angle in above the work and against the top 45deg jaw edge for thinner material. I use a 3mm al angle to bend .5 sheet then 2mm angle to bend 1.6 and 2mm then remove the angle to bend 3mm sheet. Well done with that, you better mow that lawn now!! Lol

One of the roughest looking benders I have seen - BUT - it works far better than most of the others. Well done great job! I need to bend 3mm sheet for a trailer running board / mudguard. Do you think this design would cope with say a 1m length?

Ingenious! Two questions: 1. I take it that the centre of the hinges lines up with the point at which the sheet is bending, so that the bending leaf rotates on a single point? 2. How did you get that beveled edge on the clamping bar?
@johnterpack39404 жыл бұрын
1) Yes, exactly. 2) I'd like to know that as well. 3) The clamping bar has to be set back from the edge the thickness of the sheet being worked in order to get the cleanest bend. You'll see a lot of DIY brakes with the bar set back half an inch or something. Those bends look more like rolls. This guy nailed it.
@studuatiga11 жыл бұрын
did you put a 3mm offset between th edge of the top and the bottom steel angle bar? so if we can adjust this offset, we can put virtually any size (thickness) of metal plate, right?
@silverssonyoutube84384 жыл бұрын
To get that out you have to unbolt that bar off yeah ?

Nice job, but with the bolts on the end how are you getting metal out now that both sides have bends? Normally you would just slide the metal out of the end of the break, but the bolts are preventing that.
@mackhinastation12 жыл бұрын
If you spun the clamp around so the tall part sat flush with the bending surface could you use it as a guide for quicker/perfect 90 degree bends. Might save you some time if it sits flush and is the correct angle already?

Drill a hole (1/2") in the standing angle and place a 3" x 1/2" bolt into it, provide washers and two nuts, use this as the limit for your bend, as the lower angle meets the clamping angle, the bolt will stop the upward bend exactly where you want it. Nice job though, I'll bet that in a previous life, that you were a blacksmith!
@biaggiwins7 жыл бұрын
LongIslandEddie bends aren't always 90 degrees, and you usually have to go past the desired angle to allow it to relax into position. im sure its not a problem when hes not holding a camera.

Im looking for a video to learn how to adjust a 10 1/2 FT SERIES 1 bender that was left to me. One end is bending the aluminum (for capping windows) nicely and the other is not. Im not getting nice sharp bends. Ive read the instructions on adjusting the bender but bc I know nothing about the tool, need to actually SEE how its done. Can anybody direct me to a video here that might show me how to do this?
