Don’t stir it. The point of letting it sit is so that the bad stuff goes to the bottom. Once it has separated itself. Use a siphon to get the top (good wine) away from the bad wine on the bottom. There’s supposed to be some left in the jar containing the bad stuff that you throw out. Also place your fruits in a mesh bag to avoid pulp in the wine. The wine will be nearly clear when it’s ready to drink.
@zucchinii81238 ай бұрын
You can let the leese or stuff at the bottom sit and rack off more wine I do this by putting it in a jar but I ferment in a bucket so there is more leese.
@druidsladsАй бұрын
As far as I know, you can pretty much drink it all. As long as you drink it quickly the longer it sits the worse the bottom gets is what grandpa said.
@druidsladsАй бұрын
He would also strain it once and add like a teaspoon more sugar then let it sit and age more And then he would run it through coffee filters. And that always had a really good outcome took all the grit out

When my grandparents died. We went thru the house. In a cubby hole in the upstairs bedroom . my daddy found homemade grape wine that was sitting sealed for 50 years. We opened up and damn your eyes watered. Named it devils breath.. Strained it and daddy and I drank wine he made 50 years ago that he forgot about. 3 shots u b loopy. A good daddy daughter memory.
@user-sg7ec1di2uАй бұрын
My ex grandfather also had a stash of homage wine, we also strained it and drank it 3 bottles not all at once but it tasted like a cinnamon whiskey, it was fire,
@staceyjohnson4436Ай бұрын
That’s awesome
@LaochriАй бұрын
Yeah, you're full of it. Wine stored in a cubby in a bedroom os not going to last 50 years. Corks dry out. Wax gets brittle and flacks off. Oxygen gets in and oxidizes it, turning it into vinegar. Vintage wines are stored in precise conditions and in a way so the corks do not dry out. And if it did manage to remain sealed, it is as strong as it was when in went in the bottle.
@Dylan_-_24 күн бұрын
@@Laochriyou definitely have a point, they said it was homemade wine. So I’m assuming it didn’t have a cork or anything that could’ve seeped into it. And I doubt they would’ve drank it (and said it tastes good) if it was turned to vinegar. Trust me, I know all about people making up stories, especially online, but idk. This could quite definitely be true. The little cubby could’ve just been very luckily the right conditions to store it

Never stir it. 😢 let it settle. Don't pour either. Get a siphon and transfer to another bottle. You don't ever mix the settlins into the wine. Those are dregs that get pitched.
@geraldfrost4710Ай бұрын
It's her first batch; her procedure has room for improvement. The fruit needs a squeeze, and discard the solids. How long to sit? Couple of months, and rack. Hose transfer works, but I rack 7 gallons by pouring to the next bucket. Fast and smooth, and leave the fuzzy dregs behind. She's giggling, she's having fun, she's learning. A good chore.

@CatDevz24 күн бұрын
Ya your mom was right. Pouring it also isn’t great since it gets oxygen in there which could activate acetobacters that’ll turn it into wine. This is her first batch though and I’ve seen some videos on later batches and they learn this stuff.

You’re fun to watch! My only kind recommendation would be to not stir and use a cheese cloth to strain. It’ll help get those little grainy turds outta there.

You're suppose to drain the top layer all the way down to the white stuff. Don't get any of the white stuff in the drug that you strain it to then you can drink it. 7 to 10 days. That's it for mitts you have to get it and separate it to stop it from turning into vinegar

@theposhmaniac5169Ай бұрын
Oh jeeze, do not stir that up! Strain it using cheesecloth w chunks like that! Leave the waterlock on it and count your bubbles to get the proper fizz level. Or no bubbles if you want "still" or flat wine. Can add a touch of sugar to feed the yeast. Aging will help build up the smooth factor. Should be using a cork too - young wine needs to still breathe to age properly.

Smashing the fruit gets you the best results . and don't stir it. It does 2 things when you do. Stirs up the yeast on the bottom which you dont want. And second. It puts oxygen into the alcohol which is bad bc oxygenated wine or alcohol can vinegar and turn into pure vinegar.

My neighbor has a profusion of blueberry TREES he allows me to pick as much as I want from, every year. The blueberries are the size of quarters, I swear! 😳🤯 I have gallon bags stuffed with blueberries, I didn't know I could make freakin' wine with! 😖😩 Holy moly! I could make a new batch every year, to keep the rotation flowing...HELL YEAH! I'M ALL IN!! Great idea too for presents!
