Brilliant work Matty, nicely featured boring head. No problem with time lapse, it best suits machining, and shows all steps taken. A trick to make a reamer cut oversize is to run a file in the flutes, to raise a burr, or find a smaller diameter pin/wire to fit in a flute , bodges both. Thanks for sharing, and i need a rocking chair in my shop lol. Regards John

very nice as per usual young sir, l honestly don't see the need to build another, just because that hole is a little off center, call it a deliberate quirk, and build something like it into everything you make, and see how many of us viewers can spot it. with regards to the time lapse, folk can easily fast forward through if they need, you could put those bits in, in reverse, so the chips are going back onto the part, keep up the good work. l'm already looking forward to next week.

Hi Mat. Nice bit of work. Your attention to detail is great and nothing better then the part coming out 100%. I found in this build you where a little preoccupied with math's and having to use over size cutters. Sometimes it better to sit back and look at the issues and wait a little longer for the right tools. You many would be interested in looking around the property or town when you are waiting on things to arrive. Maybe a trip over to Trevor's place and some back ground stories. If nothing else it will lower the blood pressure. Well have a great week and yes winter is cold this year.

Good result! Yeah, I wouldn't be happy with either the finish on the blending radii or with the dial not being concentric with the hole either, but I could easily see myself ending up with ghe same result if I made on too. If you do get plans for a boring and facing head I'd love to grab a copy and have a crack at making one, because I can't justify the insane price for a nice one like a Wolhaupter. Not that I'd use it that often, but as they say, better to have a tool you dont use that to need a tool you dont have.

@@MattysWorkshop hi Matty, I've responded to you twice but they seem to have disappeared. I have both of those articles from Graham Meek from HSM magazines for both 2016 and 2020. The 2020 version is an improvement of his earlier attempt based on an Emco second generation head of which he was familiar. Comparing the two results the second "looks" cleaner IMHO. However it's up to you. He also references the Engineering in Miniature magazine of 2012, I don't know the publication and page 7 of Projects for Your Workshop Volume I. Good luck.

Hi Matty. Another great addition to your workshop! How did you form the hex socket in the adjusting screw? Regards from NZ
@MattysWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Gday, I tapped a m6 thread into the end for a socket head cap screw in the dial, I drill the dial out to 7mm and machined the cap screw to be a tight fit in the 7mm hole, loctite the screw in and faced off the dial and cap screw together, It looks all one piece now, I hope I explained that right, Thanks for watching, Cheers

Maybe a stupid question but why did you punch 3 holes in the top of the head when just 2 would have done? or am I missing something? Re live centre Joe pie has some small extensions he uses on his sometimes on small parts, hard to get to etc. keep going to make some myself one day! nice vid, prefer the time lapse👍
@MattysWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Gday, I put 3 holes in simply because it looks more uniform, no other reason, I only put 2 in the 2” boring head and to me it doesn’t look right, I’m going to have to do something about a live centre soon, thanks for watching, cheers

.58 io come off? You using that funny method of figgerin again? Had me scared for a bit, till I remembered where you are. Kurtis slipped up a couple of times in his last video and was using….not bananas- but INCHES! Really enjoy your work.

As for the hole for the dial, why not bore it open a millimeter or two and put a brass bushing in it for decoration?
@MattysWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Thanks a great idea mate, at some stage I’ll have to do something with it, cheers
