In so much as a machinist would be screaming when you say 'I winged it' when you mentioned about where you drilled the holes, this vid is great and informative, makes me feel like I can do the same thing with basic tools. Thanks.

In this case the exact positioning of alignment pins doesn't matter. The blocks are fitted to each other, not to anything else.

mate, you NEVER have to apologise to things as such, we cannot learn withou making mistakes so in my opinion... 10/10

I forgot to make vents in my first mold. Went and added a few too little but it worked 90%. I then went and made them too deep today like an idiot and got hairs flowing into the vents. A lot of very very shallow ones beats a handful of deep ones. Oh well, lesson learned. I started on Slick Mk 2 today and will incorporate lessons learned from Mk 1.

FYI, Lee sells blank aluminum 2 cavity molds with handles for $26. Save the drudgery, and concentrate on the bullet contour.

Now the factory direct price is 40 for the Lee mold and handles.

This cutter worked great, but it was more of a scraper. I've learned a bit more since I made this video and it would have cut better if I'd relieve the cutter edge, right up to the edge. Check out my last video on custom milling cutters and I show how I made one for a cannon ball mold. the principle is the same. I will modify this cutter with a ball endmill on the cutting edge so it cuts better.

I need to make a mold for .312 or .311 (7.9 mm or 7.92 mm) because .303 reloading materials are getting scarce and expensive. Is it not possible to machine an 8 mm drill bit down to 7.92 and make a cutter from that? It will eliminate the need to take off half the diameter of the cutter.

so, the pins are in place of a raised part along the outside of one block, and a matching recess on the other half? seems like it would be easier to make your way, and if it works just the same that's a great way of doing it.

I'm really not prepared to make molds of different calibers. accuratemolds is a website you can get a mold for just about any caliber.

I was wondering for the crimp groves and lube grooves do they have to be machined all the way around or can i just cut them into the cutting edge. I don't have a lath but i turned a awesome cherry by turning a .359 ss rod in a drill chuck against a grinding wheel and it looked nice. I messed it up by trying to put grooves all the way around. They looked like a drunk politician had a hold of it. LOL I could cut them in just the edge easy if that's all i need to do. Love the video and thanks for sharing..

It's one thing to make something because you want to or what you are looking for is not available but all that to save 119$ and to risk that it won't work but hey nice job brother

@pyro0115 Well I supposed if it was able to remain sharp, carbon steel may work as well, you'd have to give it a shot and see.
