OH sweetheart! You must wash the butter with cold water to get all the milk out. The left over milk in the butter is what causes it to sour quicker. After you have washed and squeezed it clean, then add the salt or any other flavoring. Take this from someone who use to churn butter in the old fashioned butter churn, and finish it off. I still have the churns and very old wooden butter mold. I recently saw new small butter churns in Target. I couldn't believe it! Brings back a lot of memories of every Sunday morning churning butter. Oh, you can also add just a touch of yellow food coloring if you want it to look really buttery. We didn't have to, due to how well my dad fed the cows. Just suggestions from an old farm girl. But good for you for making your own butter!!

I thought 5 minutes was too soon. I saw a lady make it with a food processer and it took quite a while, and she washed it with ice water about 3 time's, I was wondering why she was washing it, thank's for the comment. now I will do it right. Nicky

I grew up in Ohio and in the '50s-60s, all of my relatives churned butter by a hand crank. As kids, we loved taking turns doing it, but the "liquid" that you poured down your sink is actually called "buttermilk." Yummy. You can drink it or make things, like homemade ice cream, buttermilk biscuits, buttermilk pancakes or waffles, etc. And, yes, rinse with ice cold water and squeeze all the water out with a spoon. We did it that way.

Enjoy video. No just behind the food processor a jar of peanut butter you should make your own peanut butter too it’s extremely simple. Take dry unsalted roasted nuts, blended up until it becomes a butter consistency. Some people add sugar to it but I prefer to add honey if it gets too runny adding a little bit more honey will sticking it up again. I also make what the kids call fancy peanut butter. This is where I add cinnamon allspice and some pure vanilla extract blend it all up add a little honey to make it a little bit thicker and sweeten it up. And everybody seems to love it. I’ve been told that it is much better than the store-bought peanut butter give it a try.

Great video, you saved me from getting a stand mixer bc I have that same ninga. Keep that butter milk, it’s butter milk that you buy in the store, also blend 3x with ice water, strain the ice,, it will get the excess butter milk out and make your butter last longer.

Wash the butter with cold iced water until it runs clear. The buttermilk will make the butter go bad real quick.

I suspect, that based on the sounds in the background, that they use it up in a matter of days so it probably doesn't have time to spoil!

When draining, if you make bread or other recipes, the butter milk liquid from the butter can be utilized rather than tossing, although while I have unfortunately been relearning to cook, I imagine more experienced folks could offer many add'l insights.

I Love this. I like the kids in the background singing too, mine are older now and I miss those days (believe it or not)! I think you just dumped that buttermilk down the sink, though. Can that be used for pancakes or something? Thsnks for this awesome vid

It definitely could be saved and used (it is buttermilk like you’d buy at the store) at that point though our family wasn’t really into buttermilk. Maybe in the future. :-)

Not knocking the video, but to make use of leftover whipping cream i'd do it. To save a couple of dollars probably not becasue the time and energy to clean up will eat up the two dollars.

Where do you live?! $4 for a quart of generic milk??? The only reason I'd make butter is if I could make it so that it was all natural. But where do you find all natural whipping cream? It all has stuff in it...stabilizers, thickeners, etc. Even Whole Foods puts Gellan in their cream...why??? Even the organic brands. It's supposed to be natural. And I don't care that these gums are not harmful, keep it natural!!!

I tried this in a blender and my heavy cream wouldn't turn yellow and become butter. It stayed white and tasted creamy, sort of like Cool Whip. I suspect your Ninja food processor probably has a more powerful motor than my cheap "Mainstays" blender. Did your Ninja come with a dough blade, or is that something extra you have to purchase?

A Quiver of Roses Lol awesome and,we use lots of butter to. I am having 2 buy at least 8 blocks plus 2 of the biggest containers containers I can find. It's just so expensive. We are spending 20 plus a month for butter. I refuse to eat the fake butter. My mother in law will use it and,she gets mad at me because I use real stuff. She says the other crap is much cheaper. I said exactly" it's cheap fake crap" and, not good for you. Lol anyways love her 2 pieces but, she's set in her ways! I've just got to get a new blender or processer. Then we can make our own butter! Maybe my husband will get me a new 1 for Christmas.

Sign With Me I haven’t personally tried it, but I imagine yes...it just might take a bit longer depending on how strong a motor your blender is. The idea is just to keep it constantly moving...you can actually make butter in a mason jar simply by shaking it....(though it takes A LOT of shaking.😂) this is just a quicker, easier method.:-)

Buying butter is much cheaper than making your own. Take into consideration your labor cost, your power cost, your equipment cost, cleaning cost, your time, etc. You obviously have too much time on your hands so it's OK for you to make your own butter.
