Homemade Cake or Cupcake Toppers, DIY simple spun cotton recycled decoration for birthdays + parties

Make some unique cake or cupcake or pie toppers with me and add even more charm to your next special (vegan) treat for a birthday, holiday, or any celebration or get -together. We'll use some very simple materials, most of them things you already have around the house - spun cotton is a centuries old technique and this is my spin on a beautiful and inexpensive way to create something from next to nothing that might become an heirloom! I have just re-watched this video again as I love these animals. A tip that I have found when making these is that if a square of mislin is laid flat and lightly coated in diluted PVA glue it becomes stiffer when dry and easier to cut and shape for long ears (and some flower petals). Thanks for sharing your ideas!

I love this!!! Can be also made in paperclay, papermache etc. sooo fun!!! I do need to add that I would NOT recommend people use sticks from out side that could either be NOT food safe, poisonous, and could have toxic chemicals(pesticides) on it!😮

That's a good point, i didn't remember I suggested using twigs as an option 😅 and didn't think to give any warnings about it but hopefully people have their own good sense to think that through 😬

Another set of cute animals that can be used for decorations - in the UK here there was an animated pink striped cat called Bagpuss in children's TV that yours reminded me of. Also - re: your new mug - a capercaillie is a game bird mostly found in Scotland here. I think they have interesting breeding dances that are worth a look on the Internet. When drying my spun cotton creations I press the sticks into a piece of raw potatoes in a warm oven so they dry without touching anything and getting damaged. Thanks for sharing your skills! x
