@manilamathur4 жыл бұрын
If there's one term I wish I could erase from collective memory, it is 'homemade Cerelac'. It's the same as saying homemade coca cola or homemade Maggi. These are brands, not food types. You don't make a homemade McDonald's burger, you just make a burger at home. The problem with the term homemade Cerelac is that it makes Cerelac, a brand, sound like normal food for babies. It isn't. It's highly processed food, devoid of adequate fibre, full of added poor quality minerals and vitamins that may not even be absorbed. Despite the localisation (one variant tastes like khichdi apparently), it doesn't really taste like real food. Do you eat out of packets - like eating MTR ready meals - everyday? Why do that to your child? When we start solids, it's tempting to go buy new products or try new things like a multi grain mix because there's a great sense of novelty. Instead of spending your energy on making something new, make something familiar - and spend your energy on other ways of engaging with your child. Food from the family pot, without salt, sugar, honey and chilli - mashed or offered as is, from six months - is the best way you can ensure your child gets familiar with food and is getting a wide set of bioavailable nutrients. There is no such thing as a homemade cerelac. Instead it's just multigrain mix made at home. Unless you regularly consume a multigrain mix, there's no need to offer it. Everyday family food is what a child needs. The variety also encourages a healthy microbiome.Instead of spending my energy making baby food, I made normal food for family, giving a bit to baby and spent my energy cleaning up!

I found this video, just because it had cerelac in the title

Choices! Not everyone is comfortable with offering family food from the beginning. If the mother is willing to spend time and energy making this mix, that's her choice. Popular culture has made terms like cerelac commonplace, inclusion of that term made others seeking for alternatives of it, find this video.
