It's funny that I came across this video today. As while working in my shop last night I found one of my squares like the little one you had there was not only out of square but the slide peace was so bend as to look like a noodle. I kept checking it for square as I was trying to mark a length of board for several matching cuts and even as bad as my sight is getting I could see it was wrong. Keep the videos coming.

I like the PVC clamps. You could also make finger notches by drilling 1" holes before you cut them on the chop saw. Cut them on center of each hole and you'll have small notches to assist spreading them open.

I saw a video where the guy drilled holes in the pvc and used 2 pieces dowel to spread the pvc open. Good idea.

I use to work in a carpenters shop on a Navy base in Italy and there was an Italian master carpenter who ran it. He used thick gauge copper wire as clamps. Mostly on frames at every corner. Just bend them into a ring and stick on the corners.

If you cut out a two or three inch wedge out of the PVC you are using they can be used to clamp up boxes on the glue up. One piece of PVC on each corner with a band of web running thru them.

If a framing square is off by just a little, you can use a center punch to stretch the metal in the are where the arms come together. Depending on where you put the dimples, you can open, or close the angle.

Your framing square, you can square it by laying it flat, and taking a hammer and a drift, you can close the inside by hitting the outside corner a couple of taps, which should bring the two edges closer. To spread it, hit the inside corner till it spreads.

Great channel Izzy. But the trick you used in trying to attempt confirmation of the 45 angle of your combination square is actually incorrect. You needed to measure the length of the x axis against the length of the y axis. If they are exact then you have a 45. If the y is shorter than the x then it is less than 45 and vice versa. Cheers from NZ mate.

Hello Big Fella, good tip even if you have some laying around or cut offs in dumpsters (we call them SKIPS). Missed your cheery face and those little chubby cheeks of yours.

Oh I just had a great idea that I can use for this. I have a long arm quilting machine. I have to pin my fabric to the rollers which takes approx 30 to 40 mins.. What if I cut PVC like you did and in 2 ft length and to the right circumference I bet it would clap my fabric on the rollers tight! What do you think?

Do you correct out of square w/ a wet stone or just fling 'em? I kinda think that would make for allotta flingin'.
